My co-founders and I have been working on @NZTechRally for 6 months. We're super excited that tickets are finally for sale! But we're also trying our best to operate from the principles we live by. More on how we're doing that in the up coming weeks!

Late night baking learning: NZ cooking cream cannot be whipped into shape like standard bottled cream. Dammit. It'll be a damn watery matcha tiramisu. Shouldn't have shopped in such a hurry.

Oh goodness. It took me 8 hours to edit subtitile timing of a 40mins video. On a Saturday. This is why someone can and should be paid to do this.

Managed to cram one more completed caption. Signing off for the night for real now...

Finished oneeeeee. Many more to go... Now I've looped other people in to help too. Productive pain can always be shared.

Sigh... Alright, now it's time to work on those video captions, since the live one isn't usable... I don't mind rewatching all the talks. But what I mind is watching myself fumble through speaker introductions and exit 😩

@aleishaamohia When I went in for mine at a Pharmacy in the Porirua area, they were really chilled about it. No one was there. I don't even know if they bothered checking my age 🤷🏻‍♀️ Surely they're not going to turn you away. Especially the pharmacies that are still masking.

Was chatting with my co-founders about worst case scenario, where we get no sponsors and not enough tickets to break even. Then we listed out the expense items we care so much about that we'll pay for it ourselves. Mine was NZSL and captions. Theirs was recordings. #team

One of our clocks died (not just the battery) so of course I had to order three new ones.

I'm working on a testing mythbusters talk. What are your testing myths (that can be true or untrue)?

Let's be clear. I've only started becoming aware of something like this in the last few years. I've hosted many events in the past. And I never thought about this issue either. But we can start small, from today :)

It's either the events they spoke at... ...created alt text for their profile image without consulting the speakers. or ...didn't provide alt text on speaker images on their digital media, or do any audio description during self introductions :( #inclusion #accessibility

So I asked speakers to provide alt text for their own profile images. Quite a few seasoned speakers were taken aback. They were never asked to do this before. There are 2 reasons why this happened, and neither bodes well...

A friend is flying over from Australia to my software engineering conference... ...and most of the ticket sales so far have also been industry friends and supporters. I'm so very fortunate to know these people.
