In Australia 2014 there were 2.3million Australians living in poverty @ACOSS in 2021 3.8million Australians, and in 2022 its 4million people- 1.2m are children. The status quo is unacceptable, people are falling through the cracks of progress. Something needs to shift #auspol

We are retiring with more debt Treasury’s 2020 Retirement Income Review stated: “The existence of many ‘asset rich income poor’ retirees on the Age Pension suggests home equity release has significant potential to help support retirement incomes.” @FirstlinksAus

The growing debt burden of retiring Australians @FirstlinksAus 💯 accurate and affects boomers and Gen X, no doubt the debt in retirement is growing for successive generations. #auspol #debt firstlinks.com.au/the-growing-de…

Good to have the independents in Parliament fighting for what’s right #auspol

This is the biggest Labor caucus in history. Is it also the most afraid? Powerful analysis by @SteveCannane. abc.net.au/news/2025-11-0… I fully support @WilkieMP‘s call for a conscience vote on gambling reform. The Xbench will keep pushing for the implementation of the Murphy review in full even of the major parties won’t.

Great to see the industry catch up on the reality of too many women facing poverty in retirement, our prediction … it equally affect anyone who is single, renting, and with low superannuation balances. The problem is gendered and generational.

So many have raised the alarm on women and retirement in the last 5 years including reports by Actuaries Institute , Workplace Gender Equality Agency , ASFA | The Voice of Super and PrimeLife Partners all pointing to the need for greater reform and education.

Older women “could” retire in poverty is an understatement! Too many women already have fallen into homelessness and poverty, women over 55 are the fastest growing group of homeless abc.net.au/news/2025-09-3…

Housing crisis in NSW Made worse by decades of underinvestment in social Housing Today $400pw is apparently affordable #auspol #nswpol
Annie E @[email protected]@ChiefDisrupter

Older women and #homelessness $400 pw for a one bedroom “affordable housing” apartment (provided by a charity) in Bondi junction- this is what a 70 yo woman is paying in rent. She’s on the single age pension. She couch surfed for 3 years before getting this place. #nswpol

Okay to save time - negative gearing is examined by every government. It is a major tax concession and always contentious and so it is always looked at - what does it cost? What would particular changes mean in terms of revenue and housing affordability. There are many pages in my memoir describing the detailed consideration of negative gearing that went on in my government in which Peter Dutton was a cabinet minister.

Under this budget a nurse will pay more tax than one third of big corporations in Australia. If that nurse is a renter, they may never be able to buy a home because they'll be competing with investors with massive tax handouts from this budget. That is desperately unfair.
