The Microscopy & Microanalysis 2025 conference brought microscopy experts from around the globe to Salt Lake City last month and we seized the chance to sit down with one of the pioneers of operando TEM, Prof. Patricia J. Kooyman of the University of Cape Town. @pat1kooy
Unlike traditional TEM, which captures static images, operando TEM lets us watch materials evolve in real time as they undergo reactions. Patricia was right there when many of these innovations were happening, and she shares her first-hand perspective on how this revolution in microscopy unfolded.
