If our objective is to scale and replicate agroforestry, we should implement tree systems that are accessible to more farmers and landowners. Regardless of ecological intent and ethos, agricultural systems that create cultural momentum are those that will grow.

We just wrapped up planting 7 acres of hickory seedlings in Salem, New York. Carya cordiformis produce an oil-rich nut that can be pressed in the shell for a high quality cooking oil. Our thanks to Yellowbud Farm for supplying excellent Northeast stock for this planting.

We work with landowners, land managers, businesses, and organizations to plant trees on farms. Let's balance long-term landscape function with the realistic next steps of today → We’ve planted over 30 farms to date, and we’d love to make trees happen on your land.

Wildlife pressure is the first challenge that chestnut growers face after planting. Deer and rodents can reduce tree survival by 10-20%. Fortunately, there are proven strategies to impede these short-term oriented animals.

Hybrid poplar is one of the most studied trees in agroforestry. It grows quickly in marginal ag soils, turning air, water, and nutrient runoff into wood, livestock shade, and myriad ecosystem services.
