@zombie_simon It’s down to Vince wanting controlling interests in all his contractors. The hilarity was Vince was the first to say Verne Gagne was unreasonable for wanting a cut of Hogans Japan revenue in 83, and here we are decades later. Guess promoters lose their mind in their old age. SN

@JamieGiberti One Night Only 97 is also a rarity because the US version was missing a few matches too to keep the run time to 2 hours. Not sure what version is on the network though

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti Also VH’s sound changed a lot when Sam joined. 5150 and OU812 were very keyboard heavy and electronic drum heavy. A lot of people weren’t happy with that. By the time F.U.C.K had come out, the damage was already done and the horse was out of the barn.

@PureRawk @JamieGiberti Bloody hell, the comments (admittedly it's a Jovi page) But I genuinely had no idea, I always, perhaps naively assumed they were huge everywhere. But maybe that's because they were always on tv & radio when I was a kid

For my sins, my Van Halen knowledge is very limited. Had they really not played the UK since the 80's?

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti Look at it like when Bruce Left maiden and Blaze joined. It was the same when Roth left. They got a new fan base but alienated their core base And any decision Ed made, Alex backed up as he was trying to be a big brother. It also meant that the rest of VH were always outnumbered

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti His alcohol dependency spiralled in the mid 90s, he busted his hip and self medicated to stay on the road. Then the quasi DLR reunion in 96 (Roths book gives great insight into Eds thinking back then), then Van Cherone. I wouldn’t wanna travel either! That’s a liability! 2/2

@PureRawk @JamieGiberti I had no idea on any of that. I'd obviously heard they had been offered and pulled out of headlining Download a couple of times but was never sure how true that was. That is a real shame though, that some many people this side of the pond never saw them

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti Im a big fan of the Hagar era (I was only 10 in 86 when 5150 came out and always and still feel Sammy had the better voice, but Dave was the better showman), so I was yearning for a gig throughout the 90s. In retrospect, Ed was probably at his lowest during that decade 1/2

@PureRawk @JamieGiberti Was there ever given a reason why they stopped coming over? I've heard the usual whispers over the years that EVH hated flying etc. But was there ever more to it than that?

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti From what I understand: The Jovi support deal really got under Ed’s skin, I think they tried for a double header and alternate who went in last but Jovi wouldn’t budge. There was a tour planned in 98, but Van Extreme didn’t exactly set the earth on fire so that was scrapped 1/2

@zombie_simon @JamieGiberti Wasn’t even their own tour either. They were supporting Jovi on the These Days tour. VH were supposed to do Ireland on that tour as well and pulled out. A lot of people were soured on that here as we hadn’t seen them since 79 I think.

@fakekinkade @IMPACTWRESTLING Some perspective here Alex, the Hart Foundation weren’t meant to be paired together nor were they meant to be successful. They were paired to shut Bret up in 86. But the obvious happens when you work your asses off. Just some food for thought. - Shaun

There’s absolutely no way MCMG were the greatest tag team in @IMPACTWRESTLING history. We were never supposed to team, and even then, we were never supposed to be successful. The only reason we prevailed was because a: fans saw that we worked hard and loved wrestling...
