I don't have anything to contribute but a college boyfriend of mine was the TA for stat mech and my peers were regularly very rude to me about it because the class was hard and he was a dick about grading

@Fremond_ The fundamental research cuts are not being applied to quantum information, but mostly to HEP, nuclear theory, and astrophysics (cutting the former two is probably sensible if you need to mar cuts)

The government announced £2 billion for Quantum today, which seems great and I welcome this investment. But I am unclear where the talent for these jobs is going to come from, if we're cutting funding to fundamental research in universities.

@Fremond_ The UK is trialling an increase in PhD student stipends (from about min wage to about 30k) which they hope will increase the number of UK students.
