A follower made a comment yesterday that I thought I had bookmarked so I could give it a thoughtful reply today, but I can’t find it now - so apologies that credit can’t be given where it’s due.
The question was essentially: “Why not bid on all of the spin-offs?”
The answer is actually simple.
Liquidity is finite.
Every bid you place is not just capital deployed - it’s capital not available elsewhere. Spreading bids across every derivative and look-alike doesn’t magically increase opportunity; it dilutes it.
Spin-offs thrive on one thing: borrowed attention. They exist because something else already earned trust, mindshare, or narrative gravity. But borrowed attention is fleeting. When conditions tighten - and they always do - that liquidity doesn’t stick around. It snaps back to where conviction actually exists.
Stewardship of my trading money means understanding where capital is best expressed, not chasing every echo of a signal.
In markets where everything can be manufactured, what still matters is intent - where attention consolidates, where leadership exists, and where capital is treated with respect instead of milked as exit liquidity.
The only antidote to this is to "make the pie bigger", which requires on-boarding more people into this space. Is the "spin-off" narrative on-boarding new users to crypto? If not it's just dilution by uninspired minds.
Want to create value in this world? Come to the table with an original concept, have noble intent, and do the hard work.
