Looking up into the crown of an enormous stool of Small-leaved Lime, perhaps close to a thousand years old, brings a sense of calm and perspective...and shows crown shyness nicely... #thicktrunktuesday

It was a pleasure & privilege to join the event marking the publication of England’s first Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Thank you Dan for all your leadership in this very important process.

One week on from a watershed moment for biodiversity. It’s been seven days since the West of England launched our country’s first Local Nature Recovery Strategy. @TonyJuniper, Chair of @NaturalEngland, spoke at the West of England Nature Partnership’s landmark conference.

All that wood in the river reminds me of a native mammal that has an amazing beneficial impact on biodiversity

‘The ecological equivalent of a complete reboot.’ @BBCJustinR on @BBCr4today earlier, on @nationaltrust project to rewiggle a river. Scientists say it’s resulted in ‘an explosion of life.’ We’ll need a lot more wiggle in our rivers for an ecological recovery.

**No need to seed**. In all of these photos, degraded, formerly farmed ground, recovered itself, quickly, with a species-rich flora with no seeding. Nature did it. Local genetics. Local specialities & rarities. No cost. Something to think on...

These were 95-year old oaks from a plantation in #Fineshade Wood. "The Assarts" area has just been thinned with most of the best trees left to grow on. These magnificent trunks will now go up for auction and some may end up as furniture. @ForestryEngland @ForestryComm
