The resettlement schemes are inaccessible, and they’ve left many eligible Afghans and their families in vulnerable situations. We’ll continue to call on the government to address the recommendations outlined in our report, and fulfil their promises to Afghans.

We’re pleased that the government has acknowledged our report and expressed their determination to help Afghans seeking safety. However, Lord Hanson’s response fails to address any of our urgent or scheme-specific recommendations.

Last week, Baroness Goudie mentioned the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative (APBI) in the parliamentary questions. APBI is a joint project we deliver with Safe Passage and our law firm partners.

It builds on feedback from Afghan community members who reviewed the first edition in February 2023. It’s a comprehensive toolkit designed to support eligible Afghans to apply for resettlement under the ARAP scheme, or seek review for their refused application under the scheme.
