The BMA GP Registrar survey results are out and paint a damning picture with just two in five GP registrars planning to work in UK general practice once they complete training. ‘Asked about their plans when they complete training, just 38.4% of GP registrars said they planned to work as a GP in the UK. A further 10% said would remain in the UK but planned to work in a medical role other than general practice. A quarter (25.6%) said they would move abroad to work as a GP, 2% said they would move abroad and work outside general practice, 6.5% planned to quit medicine altogether and 17.6% were unsure, the poll of almost 3,200 GP registrars found. Asked whether they felt positive about their future career prospects as a GP in the UK, just 16.7% said yes - while 59.5% said they did not and 23.8% were unsure.’ What does @rcgp plan on doing to tackle this ticking time bomb?
