My thoughts on the Tarik Skubal discussion that’s been happening on Yankees Twitter:
Obviously, I'd love Skubal. I understand he's the biggest difference maker available. But I also am realistic. Given the likely bidders in the market and their respective farms, we cannot get him without including Lombard+.
If you're willing to do that for a rental, sure. But we have to acknowledge the risks. Postseason baseball is a shitshow and Skubal (while he makes us stronger) doesn't guarantee us anything meaningful, and then he walks in November.
Not to mention, the guy has had an injury to his throwing elbow already this year. He had an experimental procedure to heal faster too, so who knows if he can hold up till EOS.
I am not a prospect hugger, but I think rentals require more thought than others. This isn’t cut-and-dry.
