While volunteering is of immense civic value-it’s vital to emphasise that there’s a difference between neighbour-to-neighbour civic action & #volunteering. Hence, the key to collective efficacy isn’t volunteering. It’s community building -of which volunteering/ism is a subset.

@LACNetworkUK You can't solve exclusion, inequality, crises & service 'demand' with a system that is intentionally designed to wait for crisis/harm to happen or a quick fix. We need a stronger focus on building individual, family, community capacity, resilience, relationships, mutual support.

@MyFutureCareUK Think we need more area-based solutions. One thing alone will never be the answer for everyone but two starting points could be encouraging local authorities to sign up to the @Ageing_Better UK Network of #agefriendly communities and to explore @LACNetworkUK.
