@CMS_UHI The story of the recovery of Kinghorn Loch from red mud contamination & restoration of the surrounding land through a long-term community, private & public partnership is a fascinating one. Began long before the term 'rewilding' came into our lexicon. Happy to chat- DM me

@_JamieMcIntyre @ScotlandTBP Our local venue shows a two hour slot for this

Anyone know the running time of this? Asked the question of @ScotlandTBP via DM but no response 🙁
(and need to plan travel which involves a ferry.....)

@comsdivforestry @WoollyMaggot It's also about financial feasibility - thinning used to be considered unfeasible because you couldn't sell the thinnings. That's changed. So if the costs need to balance the income, that is what would affect the feasibility of manual thinning.
English

@WoollyMaggot Follow up question - is manual thinning feasible on say a 70 hectare site without access roads? Although access roads are great for amenity obviously, not everyone wants to put them in at the outset.

@JohnthetreeWeir @wildforest_matt @WoollyMaggot @_Polinard @Joey76840254 @FlyingQuercus @forest_policy Thanks John, good detective work, this was the short version that got published, happy to discuss with anyone who's interested.

climatexchange.org.uk/media/4079/div… @wildforest_matt @WoollyMaggot @_Polinard @Joey76840254 @FlyingQuercus the report I mentioned @RandomForestInk @forest_policy
English

@BlackIslePMD @forest_policy @makarneil @andyheald @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ You can find a 4MB version at forestpolicygroup.org/blog/woodland-…
English

I've given this a quick skim - looks useful and interesting doc, created by @forest_policy. Lays out historical & current situation, proposed pathway.
Would be good to get some feedback/thoughts from across the sector @makarneil @andyheald @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ
English

@BlackIslePMD @forest_policy @makarneil @andyheald @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ see forestpolicygroup.org/blog/woodland-… for a 4MB version
English

@forest_policy @makarneil @andyheald @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ Worth noting that it's fairly chunky at 12MB, so can take a wee while to download if you are using weak data connection.

@andyheald @BlackIslePMD @forest_policy @makarneil @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ Hi Andy, the 40% ambition is the Scottish Greens' target. Our report considers ways to get there. Glad you like some of the ideas. Report a wee bit hard to find: andywightman.com/docs/woodland_…
English

@BlackIslePMD @forest_policy @makarneil @FlyingQuercus @timberinitiativ I've only read article NOT the report yet. Impressive to see:
Ambition for 40%
Recognition of need & opportunities to decarbonise our economy by using more local timber/fibre.
Council ownership
But big leap in annual planting & nat regen required which could be challenging.

Scotland needs to diversify forestry ownership if it's to become a 40% woodland nation, according to a new report.

@rajygoroc @wildforest_matt @PoliticsScot Not Forestry Commission land, as Matt says private land sold by Duke of Buccleuch. Scottish Forestry is the regulatory body (used to be Forestry Commission Scotland) which should have picked this up but didn't, partly because they are desperately understaffed.
English

@wildforest_matt @PoliticsScot This was featured on Scots Borders local news last week I think. It concerned forestry commission lands and they admitted that they had permitted this by error. And they agreed it should not have happened.

Relocate beavers - don’t kill them. Allow these aquatic engineers to improve Scotland’s landscapes and nature. You can stop the unnecessary killing by signing and sharing this petition. parliament.scot/GettingInvolve… #movedontkill #conservation #wildlife
