All this talk about my lack of a beard really makes me consider the journey I've been on. I remember being excited for that little beard under the lip to show up, finally being able to trim my moustache, hoping for my beard to finally connect to my sideburns. Wearing the beard as a Muslim, finally being able to identify with our community, looking like my elders. Rejoicing on the day that I finally had enough hair for the fiqh to apply to me. Then having to trim it, having to see doctor after doctor, finally having to shave it & losing my little identifier with my community. Only to have other Muslims publicly ridicule me for not wearing it, a reminder of harshness & arrogant cruelty. May Allāh make it easy for us, Amīn.
