Many women don’t realize that if a doctor tries to dismiss your symptoms or deny you treatment you can request they note the dismissal in their clinical notes. This forces and audit trail and makes the doctor more likely to take you seriously. Wanting the best outcome for yourself doesn’t make you a “difficult” patient. It’s your body and you deserve to see a physician who wants to get to the bottom of your condition alongside you.

@brown_john57376 @2BOutonalimb @TruthCuresLyme Don’t forget the med trials, a few they’re pretty sure won’t work but insurance requires you try first before they give you what you and the dr both agree is the best one…that process takes 6-12 months at least.

@Redheadeddead @2BOutonalimb @TruthCuresLyme This is true. They try to do the maximum amount of tests before any diagnosis. If a situation calls for an mri, they do ultrasound, x-ray, and CT before the mri. Meanwhile the patient is still miserable and left to juggle multiple appointments and ponder wtf is going on.

@PaulGadsden82 Same with my dad, he was at an appointment last week and the Dr mentioned that they shouldn't do xyz bc of kidney disease and he said I don't have that, and lo and behold, he has had it for several years. Though this is the VA he's dealing with so I'm not shocked.

Going to share an embarrassing but very real issue with having chronic illness / disability. I havnt cleaned my office in weeks. (The rest of my house gets done once a week by the city’s care program) I’m doing some today because I finally have energy.

@DavidESmitty It seems most doctors hear “I’m in pain” as “I want drugs” honestly we’d just rather not be in pain. Why is it there, what’s causing it, what can we do to stop or minimize the CAUSE and therefore the pain.

I’ve encountered a disability-related problem I wish every disabled person had: I’ve accommodated myself so well I sometimes forget that I’m disabled. I keep hurting myself and overdoing it as a result, but oh what a problem to have when I was previously bed-bound and house-bound for years 🥹

Patients understand that the system is a cluster fck for doctors as well. I’ve seen good doctors waste hours of their time fighting for proper approval for one patient with insurance, and they have 100s of patients. I don’t think any patient is saying every Dr is terrible. We’re saying hey we have been harmed and not helped, all by those who swear to do no harm. More than anything we APPRECIATE a good Dr who treats you as an equal partner in your own care, who understand that it’s our entire lives while it’s one 15 min appt of many in your workday. You can leave to go to next appt and it’s no big deal. We can leave and be just as sick as when we came with no answers, relief or having even been listened to. And the harms are real, up to and including permanent disability and death. Callousness on the part of the patient or provider does no good and only harm.

I took down a thread bc folks felt it had a "not all doctors" vibe to it. Fair - heard. I think its important to talk about hcw harms. But we are also reliant on that system for care, so how do we move within it? Lots of patients have talked about their strategies.

@NCGardening I honestly don’t know any gardeners who don’t have a mountain of projects and are behind on half of them 🤣 one project usually means 2-3 more side projects for the main one and so on.

The garden is not going as planned, and everything is behind schedule. Between a historically bad winter, starting seeds late and taking on too many projects, I’m 2-3 weeks late. If you are behind schedule, you are in good company. ——— #gardening #vegetablegardening

It wasn’t a problem for doctors to throw numerous medications at my symptoms. The second I wanted to know the underlying cause I was a problem. A doctor saying they don’t know is fine, preferable even. But telling a pt they are the problem instead of idk investigating the mechanism is a bold take.

@homemakinghunny Stand mixer will do many things not just bread, but the bread maker is so easy bc you toss the ingredients in and come back in 3 hrs to fresh bread. If bread is the ONLY thing get the bread mker but if you do a lot of other cooking the stand mixer will be a game changer

Ok homemakers/makers of food from scratch people: We are looking into buying either a stand mixer or a good bread maker. I am leaning toward stand mixer because I feel like it’s a lot more versatile. The main goal is to be making our own bread consistently. But I do make a lot of things homemade and I feel like a stand mixer is better for that. But the bread maker takes a lot of the work out of making bread for you so maybe that would be more convenient for the purposes of bread making. But I also can’t make buns or smaller portion bread items with the bread maker. Unfortunately, a KitchenAid is out of the budget, but we’re looking at the Hamilton Beach stand mixer, which seems pretty good as well and comes with dough hooks, whisk attachment, etc. and for the bread mixer, we’re looking at one by Starfrit.

Riddle me this, America. The Supreme Court holds that no person has a right to access investigational drugs, even when they are terminally ill, outside of FDA authorization. Yet, the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th circuits now hold that healthy people can be mandated to use experimental drugs and simultaneously surrender any right to sue when injured by them. This sounds like the courts' only focus on death, not life. If you're dying, you can't try the drugs, but if you're healthy, you can be mandated to use a drug that might kill you. This is so 2026 America right now.
