I have followed every detail of this fuel scandal, and it is painful to see how a national crisis was turned into a business opportunity for those in power while millions of Kenyans continue to suffer. What was presented as action against cartels is in reality a well calculated scheme to control supply, manipulate prices, and maximise profit. When the Middle East crisis disrupted supply, emergency procurement was lawfully initiated and contracts awarded to the lowest compliant bidders. But those decisions were overturned to force in Gulf Energy, a company linked to Mr. Ruto, despite missing deadlines and failing on technical grounds. By controlling the bulk of fuel imports and renegotiating prices behind the scenes, this network is now earning billions, illegally pocketing profits of about KSh 5 per litre translating to roughly KSh 2.5 billion from a single supply cycle, all while Kenyans pay record high prices at the pump. Kenyans are now being forced to carry the burden of this greed, with historic fuel price increases affecting every aspect of life, yet those who followed the law are being targeted to shield the real beneficiaries. This is why we, as the United Alternative Government today, demand that Mr William Ruto immediately convenes a special sitting of Parliament within seven days to address this crisis, cancel the Government to Government petroleum framework that serves private interests, and take urgent steps to cushion Kenyans. We further demand the immediate resignation and prosecution of the CS for Energy and all those complicit in this scandal, the suspension of the Road Maintenance Levy, Affordable Housing Levy, and punitive NSSF deductions, as well as the removal of VAT on fuel to ease the burden on wananchi. Kenya cannot be run for profit at the expense of its own people. Full Statement: shorturl.at/TCkzJ
