Saying that you'd have a hard time coming up with interesting stats or storylines in a 36-race format would make me seriously doubt your credibility as a NASCAR journalist.
Most of NASCAR's most memorable and exciting moments came during the 36-race format. If you're unable to form talking points from an entire 36-race season, I don't know what to tell you.
Telling the public that you'd rather have constant manufactured drama, acts of desperation by the drivers that are embarrassing for the sport and "game 7 moments" over a format that consistently crowns a rightful champion every year isn't a good look at all.

When I was a kid, 20 million people watched the Daytona 500 and sponsors were Lowe's, Budweiser, and Home Depot. Just saying those companies tells you what drivers they were.
Now, six million people watch the Daytona 500, and sponsors are "Real American Beer" and "SI Yachts."
