The Berwick Bank offshore wind farm off Scotland's east coast has been approved. Conservation groups warn it could become the deadliest wind farm for seabirds ever built. The government's own impact assessments predict large numbers of bird deaths, including puffins, kittywakes, gannets, guillemots and razorbills. Despite the objections, the project was just awarded subsidies that will add £1.8 billion in green levies to UK energy bills. The RSPB called the decision an absolute disgrace, saying public money is being used to fund one of the most damaging wind farms for wildlife on earth. Nature is being sacrificed, in the name of saving it.
