A woman drives past Meta’s new AI data center in Florida, showing massive stretches of farmland cleared for the project. The scale of land being wiped out is raising eyebrows.

@CanYouHearMeSMH @LeeCEldridge @mattyglesias What goalposts were moved? Those opposing it had always felt we gave up too much without addressing non-nuclear issues including ballistic missile development, support for global terrorist operations, and stockpiling of offensive weapons. This was ALWAYS part of their argument

I know I’m a little hung up on this but the shameless dishonesty of the Iran Hawks who vociferously denied that their preferred alternative to JCPOA was war only to turn around and insist this war was necessary really bothers me.

@WayneLance @joyncassie @mattyglesias A bad deal for who? The federal government has spent more dealing with Islamists in the middle east then all domestic programs combined over the last 25 years. A couple hundred billion to bomb Iran back into the stone ages may be well worth it in the long term.

@RussHickson @joyncassie @mattyglesias A bad deal made quickly is still a bad deal. Spending mass amounts of US resources on a war with no strategic objective, when a deal is on the table makes no sense. Crawl out from under OAN news and google it.

@WayneLance @joyncassie @mattyglesias Oman and UK reps claimed Iran accepted our offer? Source? When naval forces are gathering on your borders, you should realize that you need to get a deal done NOW. Trump made clear he was done pussyfooting around with Iran, and that he was not happy with progress in talks.

@RussHickson @joyncassie @mattyglesias Oman and UK reps involved in the negotiations don't back that story up. Iran was putting their nuclear program on the table. They did it in 2015, too. Trump bombed them while still getting concessions.

@stormynormy42 @LeeCEldridge @mattyglesias That is not what he said. As I stated,Trump always maintained Iran should not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, and as early as 2015 that we needed to maintain a credible threat against them.

@RussHickson @LeeCEldridge @mattyglesias Trump: "they'll start a war with this specific nation if they win, I will not" You: "clearly that was hyperbole and what he really meant is that he would start a war with that specific country, like he said the other people would" Do you hear yourself?

@hanraha_o @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 Ass clown, you asked for examples I gave them. Sorry you are an unprepared scared little bitch that doesn’t know how to deal with the world as it is, rather than what you want it to be. Me and mine and mine are fine, because I’m prepared for such eventualities.

@RussHickson @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 This is just ludicrously tenuous. Beneath contempt to try saying this dreck justifies this retarded war Try making a list about Saudi support for 9/11, and how many Americans were killed by militias funded by Saudis Or, just go fuck yourself Hope you enjoy paying $4/gallon

Again, sincerely asking just one (1) JCPOA opponent to stop lying about the sequence of events here. JCPOA happened. Some people didn’t like it. Proponents said “the realistic alternative to this is war.” Opponents angrily denied that. And now here we are._
Russell Hickson@RussHickson

@mattyglesias It was not a flip flop, arguments against the JCPOA always included a credible threat to deter Iranian aggression. In 2015 Trump argued the US should not take military options off the table. Trump never ruled out strikes, this year he saw the opening, and need and took it.

@jrsesq90 @AntiClanker1337 @mattyglesias No, the JCPOA did not require them to give up their ambitions. It imposed temporary verifiable limits, but did not require them to give up enriched uranium or enrichment capabilities. Even Obama claimed it would only delay breakout by 10-15 years, which is now.

@AntiClanker1337 @jrsesq90 @mattyglesias Actually he did, and I did. I stated previously their refusal to give up their nuclear program was a reason. Also: Missile and military degradation Self-defense and preemption Regime change and Iranian liberation Countering terrorism and proxies

@AntiClanker1337 @jrsesq90 @mattyglesias Need is subjective, and I doubt many who oppose it could be convinced otherwise. That being said the decision lays with the commander and chief, and from evidence I’ve seen, I’m good with it. He did articulate the need, you can disagree with it, but your opinion matters little.

@hanraha_o @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 Facts: -8 of the 10 hijakers traveled through Iran. -Iran didn’t stamp their passports to hide they were there -Iran offered post attack Al-Qaeda members refugee -In 2011 a US federal court found Iran legally liable for providing "material support" that helped the 9/11 hijackers

@RussHickson @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 "Victims on 9/11" ahahahahaha Please, please explain to me in what earthly way 9/11 was actually secretly **Iran's** fault Lmfao you absolute clown No not really, but America *has* squandered its empire on the back of utterly moronic wars like this one since 1960

@hanraha_o @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 How about the 40 killed on October 7th? Marines in Beruit? Victims on 9/11? I’m glad you and yours live in relative safety, but that is not the norm for the vast majority of the history of man. The west has built this world on the back of military campaigns dating back to 700 BC

@RussHickson @jrsesq90 @mattyglesias Then link that not Jerusalem post. Not everyone that doesn't support Israeli aggression is antisemitic. Yet again you're not defending your previous assertions that there was a need to start a war in the middle of negotiations.

@AntiClanker1337 @jrsesq90 @mattyglesias Numerous reports outside of Israel, including from the New York Times, Post, Reuters, Iran International among many others reported the same thing. <Tongue in Cheek> I know, I know, all the media is controlled by the Jews.

@AntiClanker1337 @jrsesq90 @mattyglesias Up to the attack we were in active talks with Iran for them to give up their nuclear ambitions. They refused, all the while killing tens of thousands of their own. The Ayatollah showed up on radar, the rest is history. At some point a credible threat needs to be credible.

@srsjeff @mattyglesias @ChaimKatz7 Iranian leadership has been chanting death to America since 1979. Their tentacles have been in nearly every conflict in the Middle East, and they have funded, and/or supported every Islamic terrorist attack over the same period. It seems maybe McCain was right.

@joyncassie @mattyglesias Maintaining a credible threat was 2015. We were in negotiations with Iran in February of this year. On February 26th Iran rejected our offer. All the while they were killing tens of thousands of their own citizens. Sometimes the clock runs out.

@RussHickson @mattyglesias "maintaining a credible threat" and "saw and opening and need and took it" are two vastly different things. He had the leverage in the lead up to this to get an even better deal than JCPOA, why not use it?
