SMESU Edinburgh

Whilst we head to Basel Airport we want to thank all the volunteers & staff at @KISC and our new international friends, for making the past 11 days fantastic! We’ve conquered steep hikes, crossed glaciers & rock-climbed, but it’s the friendships we’ve made that are most special.

Spectacular views and an amazing sunset were the reward for the hike up to 2840 metres and the Blüemlisalphütte. Tomorrow will be a big day as Team Oeschinenhorn head to the glacier for some ice climbing. More pics, and some reels, over on our insta: instagram.com/SMESU

An early start for Team Oeschinenhorn as we embark on the hike to Blüemlisalphütte. The sun has risen above the edge of the valley and it’s going to be hot one. 🥵 Fortunately we are carry plenty of water and have already smothered ourselves in suncream. #BePrepared #hiking

Each Team are taking Sunnbüel cable car 🚠 up to the valley above @KISC for some rock climbing. The sessions are led by Pinkies - volunteers from around the world who give up their time to run the centre & activities. On Mon. the brilliant Jack & Jack (IE) led Team Oeschinenhorn!

Two of our teams have been trekking up to the Blümlisalp-hütte today. A 5 hour hike, now relaxing in the mountain hut at 2821m before an early start onto the glacier ❄️

Yesterday’s hike to Oeschinensee & glacial lake swim was great! A good warm up for our longer hike up to Blüemlisalphütte, where we will stay overnight before our glacier skills session. Two groups (Fründenhorn & Doldenhorn) left for that hike, this morning. #HighAdventure #KISC

An amazing night on camp meeting scouts from around the world. Many neckers swapped. Bit of an impromptu campfire has just broken out as the explorers return for bed. 🔥🇨🇭

Damp start today with the cloud hanging low in the Kander valley. ☁️ However the cloud is lifting and breaking up a bit as we hike up to Oeschinensee - a glacial lake - for a quick dip to cool off!

Hello Switzerland! 👋 🇨🇭 We’ve landed safely, got all our luggage, and boarded the coach ready for a 2.5 hour drive to @kisc in #Kandersteg. 30 Explorer Scouts & 9 Adult Volunteers on our way for 11 days of #adventure and #Internationalfriendship in the Alps. @ScoutsScotland
