Meet Naheed Nenshi’s new boss: eco-socialist, anti-pipeline advocate, and Leap Manifesto author Avi Lewis. 🔗 unitedconservativecaucus.ca/nenshis-new-an…

I’m probably in the minority but I think there’s an audience for Lewis’ message. Maybe not today, but in 12-14 months it will be there. Look what’s happening in other countries like the UK, Germany, Denmark, France etc Eco/AI populism is gaining ground. Canada is not immune to the same forces. #cdnpoli

This weekend, NDP members elected self-declared “eco-socialist” Avi Lewis @avilewis as their leader. Lewis has called for a full ban on new pipelines and all fossil fuel development, at a time when the world needs Alberta energy more than ever. And while Naheed Nenshi @nenshi may try to distance himself, the Alberta NDP’s own constitution makes clear they are tied to the federal party. The truth is, the Alberta NDP has a long track record of opposing pipelines and energy development. Their extreme views are a danger to jobs and affordability. The UCP will never stop fighting against radical forces, including the Alberta NDP, who want to shut down our economy and keep our resources in the ground.

Sask NDP Leader Carla Beck declines Avi Lewis’ meeting request, in letter below.

Today, the federal New Democratic Party selected its new leader. It is clear that the direction of the federal party under this new leader, someone who openly cheered for the defeat of the Alberta NDP government, is not in the interests of Alberta. Last year, Alberta’s New Democrats voted overwhelmingly to make membership in the federal party optional. Many thousands of our provincial members, including myself, are not members of the federal party. We are a big tent and welcome the support of people who vote for every federal party. We believe in Alberta and we believe in Canadian energy and the good jobs it creates. We believe in more pipelines and in reducing emissions. We believe in strong public services and a strong jobs-driven economy to help pay for them. This is what we are fighting for every day. Albertans deserve federal leaders who understand the importance of Alberta and our essential role in the federation. Our focus is not on what the federal NDP says or does. Our fight is with Danielle Smith and the separatist UCP. Albertans deserve a better government, and we are here to be that better government.

More light reading: "We are of the view that the minority’s proposed maps violate the principle of procedural fairness, unreasonably apply the statutory considerations, and likely violate s. 3 of the Charter." #JohnandJulianmandering #ableg #yyccc #yegcc abebc.ca/wp-content/upl…

JP: We heard from former NDP leader Tom Mulcair. He said that you know you should be in the House to take on the Liberals if you want to be a viable opposition leader Avi Lewis: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say that I have no intention of taking advice from Thomas Mulcair

BoG approved tuition increases for domestic and international students. It also passed the new draft recruitment policy, which removed language around EDI hiring practices. thegatewayonline.ca/2026/03/bog-ap…

One of the best things that came out of the PC / Reform merger was the end of the youth wing. Instead of being relegated to the sandbox, young people were encouraged to take real roles on EDA boards and National Council - and to run for parliament.

Trump: "The amazing thing is we don't need the Hormuz Strait. We don't need it. We don't need it at all. We have so much oil. Our country is not affected by this."

I've so far avoided dramatics because I would be accused of bias. To be clear: this is the worst energy crisis of our lifetimes, well beyond what any sober mind could have envisioned, with no end in sight. The level of complacency to me is astounding.

PM Mark Carney says he is "very disappointed" in Air Canada CEO's English-only message of condolence: "It doesn't matter the circumstances, but particularly in these circumstances, lack of judgment and lack of compassion."
