Buried Alive: The Chilling Kidnapping of Barbara Jane Mackle
In December 1968, 20-year-old Barbara Jane Mackle, a student at Emory University in Atlanta, was sick with a high fever and the flu. Her mother took her to a quiet motel in Decatur so she could rest away from campus.
But in the middle of the night, a knock came at the door.
Two people claiming to be police officers said there had been an accident involving Barbara’s boyfriend and asked to come in. The moment the door opened, the pair attacked—chloroforming her mother and abducting Barbara, who was already weak and barely able to stand.
She was driven to a remote area and confronted with something unimaginable: a fiberglass box built like a coffin. Inside were a few supplies—water, canned food, a small lamp, and an air tube leading to the surface.
Despite her pleas, the kidnappers forced her inside, closed the lid, and buried the box underground.
Alone in near-total darkness, Barbara lay trapped beneath the earth, hearing only the sound of her own breathing through the thin air tube. Her survival now depended on whether her father could pay the enormous $500,000 ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
The terrifying ordeal would become one of the most shocking kidnapping cases in American history.

President Trump granted a full pardon to Jewish nursing home operator Joseph Schwartz after he served just three months of a three-year sentence for a nearly $39 million fraud scheme. Federal prosecutors said that Schwartz refused to pay payroll taxes that had been withheld from employees’ wages across 11 states. Trump pardoned Jew(ish nursing home owner, Joseph Schwartz, 3 months into his 3 year sentence. Schwartz was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine and $5 million in restitution after he admitted to defrauding the IRS for over $38 million in payroll taxes that he had collected from employees at his Skyline chain of nursing homes that he ran throughout the U.S.
Trump also commuted the sentence of Judith Negron (she is), convicted in a $200 million Medicare fraud case. Trump’s clemency grant said the “ends of justice” did not require her to serve another two decades in prison.

Why does Trump keep pardoning chosen criminals? Recall back in Dec 2020, Trump commuted the sentence of convicted chosen criminal Philips Esformes after only 4.5 years served for committing a $1.2 billion medicaid fraud. He systematically billed Medicare and Medicaid for medically unnecessary services or services that were not provided, paid and received kickbacks, paid bribes to doctors to refer patients to his facilities, bribed doctors and state regulators. Esformes also used narcotics as lures, directing his facilities to give powerful opioids like Sackler family drugs OxyContin and fentanyl to get the patients addicted so they remained at the facilities and he could continue billing Medicare and Medicaid for their care. An FBI agent called Esformes “a man driven by almost unbounded greed.” Esformes walked free thanks to advocacy from Jewish orgs (Aleph Institute), Jared Kushner connections, and support from GOP heavyweights like ex-AGs Meese & Mukasey. Did Esformes learn his lesson? On October 12, 2024, Esformes was arrested on domestic violence charges involving his domestic partner, Aurelia Castiel. Case dropped!
