@SSL_2004 @PersonthePerso2 I agree, THAT part is a writing flaw (Tails), but you're missing the fact that Sonic did NOT know Metal had no freedom, look no further than this panel right here. Eggman is clearly explaining to Sonic something he didn't know and SOMEHOW Tails didn't account for, his software.

I think it's because he hasn't had a reason to ever talk like this after the fact and he was answering Surge's question, he can't just say "I'm just a guy that loves adventure!" and call it a day because Surge asked him more than that. (It's in character IMO)

The last thing I’m going to say about this topic but it is worth noting that Sonic has not been written like this since the Surge Saga Criticism has been listened to and the comic improved as most issues with the comic

@PersonthePerso2 @landoyysz The important distinction though is that because the series is about rebellion against oppression, freedom, integrity, and self-acceptance, and Sonic embodies those themes, things always DO get better with him around in the end.

@PersonthePerso2 @landoyysz It's wild because criticizing Sonic's morality is NOT hard, & you can make interesting stories doing it. Frontiers, partially does this. It's his single track mind that leads The End to being freed. With Sonic things tend to get worse before they get better.

A: I like Game Sonic, so I want him to be authentic in the adaptations I read, as he's a lot of the appeal.
B: Much more importantly. IDW is literally Canon. This is MEANT to be Game Sonic.

I just think, the story should've gone a different way than Surge asking "So what's your thing?" and then just Sonic spilling his beans.
I wish we could've seen any other way to convey Surge learning Sonic's perspective rather than her just asking and him saying.

@The_Daibu @Excalibur2343 If you think Sonic "notoriously doesn't shut the fuck up" when it's quite literally the OPPOSITE, as he, "notoriously," tends to keep his thoughts concise and to the point in the games, then you must have gotten your entire perception of the character from the movies or smth.

@Kenrulei @ChannelDogYT Sonic was of course less defined than now at his very inception. He had several different pitches for his backstory before they settled on leaving it mostly ambiguous, but a little whiles into his origins they already had a fairly good grasp of what they wanted from the character

@Kenrulei @ChannelDogYT Him planning to con Eggman isn't introspection, it's cunning. No one ever said he wasn't cunning. Again. Introspection is looking inward to think about oneself. Sonic isn't asking himself why he does what he does. He's literally acting in the moment in that scene.

@SSL_2004 @ChannelDogYT odds are he thinks faster than most he has to when moving at that speed to avoid hitting things and so on instincts can only go so far. sonic also know when to rile up his foe, that again is him being planning to annoy them to mess up and get mad often used at eggman

@Kenrulei @ChannelDogYT Pretty sure you're just conflating the US adaptation of Sonic & the original JP intent. Sonic was always meant to be cool & rebellious but the US cranked up the RADICAL X-TREMENESS to 11, & sidelined his more mystical elements.

@Kenrulei @ChannelDogYT I'm not saying he's stupid, I'm saying he's not very introspective. There's a difference. Introspectivity means thinking about yourself and WHY you do the things you do. Sonic doesn't like to waste time reminiscing about past actions. He just moves forward and acts on his gut.

@StarstormSaga @SamsProStation Not the point. The point here was to illustrate that the blanket statement that "It's a comic book, all they can do is talk!" is fundamentally false. If a comic can work with no text, then one can work with varying amounts. Text is a tool. It should be used accordingly.

@Kenrulei @ChannelDogYT A: Sonic never really did this with Shadow. The two were evenly matched in SA2. There was not "allowance" or anything.
B: Sonic lets Metal and Eggman go a lot but outside of IDW it's never really been to redeem them.
C: What does this have to do with him being introspective?
