Dear Players, I coach you because I care about you. I challenge you because I believe in you. I cheer you on because I know you can. I hold you accountable because I know life will. I tell you the truth because I know most will not. Sincerely, My Why

Tough loss last night! .... After a lot of reflecting, I’m clear on where I can be better in certain situations, to allow the players to be successful. A line can be drawn under the game so we can move on to the next one. Wednesday here we come! #postgamereflections

An MSc academic requirement is to administer an independent piece of work within a sporting topic of my choosing (trash talk). Any WBBL/ WNBL D1 female athletes OVER 18 who played in the 21/22 season please spare 10 minutes to fill the survey. Thankyou forms.gle/bsKckBLXMJMYJw…

We’re disgusted that some of our squad – who have given everything for the shirt this summer – have been subjected to discriminatory abuse online after tonight’s game. We stand with our players ❤️

During my Coaching Msc i have had to identify a contemporary issue within sport, and conduct a blog to engage others opinions and thoughts. I decieded to choose an issue every sport can relate to. Please feel free to comment and share. Link is below. psycholgicalwarefare.blogspot.com/2021/03/trash-…

My master's course requires me to discuss about a contemporary issue in sports coaching and post a blog encouraging people to comment on it. I have decided to choose the topic of understanding student-athlete burnout. I hope you enjoy and be kind! pjtipz.blogspot.com/?m=1

@FelixHallam Its dependent on the sport. Personally i feel the more physical contact the sport conducts the more "trash-talking" is encouraged. In regards to what is and isnt accsepted. There is NO clear line in any sport of the point it becomes unaccsepted. Its based on perceptions.

@Shanice11733856 I think a large issue surrounding trash talk if some forms were considered to be inappropriate or bullying etc., is how do you police this, and what do we class as acceptable/unacceptable?

@donaldvinson Is it non existent in your sport because the behaviour is sanctioned? If so how? Or is it because the behaviour is normalised and so isnt identified to coaches as "trash-talking" anymore?

@Shanice11733856 A very good point about masculinity - I find this fascinating. In cricket, sledging is widely accepted and celebrated when deemed funny - ‘mind the windows Tino’. Does this exist in the women’s game too? I have no idea. In my sport it is virtually non-existent in both genders.

@donaldvinson It depends on the sport. Male dominated sports e.g. rugby are more likley to have this level of "banter" embedded in their historical sporting culture. Being apart of "rugby history" would mean females ruby players would perform this behaviour, just maybe not to the same extent

@FelixHallam Yes i do this there is acceptable forms however i think this depends on the historical context of the sport. For example in Rugby the level of acceptability of trash talk would highly differ to a sport such as gymnastics.

@donaldvinson Some sports also find trashtalking as a form of masculinity, capital, a chance to regain psychology power. Being imnedded so deeply in the sporting culture means most athletes conduct the same mentality. This is where "actions speak louder than words". Those targeted outperform.

@Shanice11733856 Isn’t trash talking just bullying? Why does ‘bullying’ your opponent have positive connotations in some sports?
