Today’s fixture at Sheffield Wednesday, dedicated to International Women’s Day, is a statement of intent that football is a game for everyone, and that women belong at the heart of it, in the stands, in the community, and across every level of the sport. At Hillsborough, women have always been part of the fabric of the club. Generations of mothers, daughters, sisters and friends have passed down the identity of being Wednesdayites. What events like this do is recognise that contribution openly and proudly, reinforcing that football spaces should be welcoming, respectful and accessible to all. Special credit must go to the @SWFCwsg, who continue to play a vital role in strengthening that culture of inclusion. Their work helps ensure that female supporters feel represented, supported and empowered within the Wednesday fanbase. Groups like theirs are essential to building safe, inclusive supporter communities and to making sure that women’s voices are heard in conversations about the future of the club. Today is therefore about visibility and belonging. It is about showing young girls in the crowd that football is their game too. It is about recognising the women who have stood on the terraces for decades. And it is about reinforcing that the Wednesday family is strongest when everyone has a place within it. #SWFC

Meet Zara 💙🦉 As part of our International Women's Day celebrations, this brilliant 9-year-old will be leading the team out at Hillsborough this Saturday ahead of our fixture against Ipswich Town. Zara was chosen from nominations submitted by our members. She recently started at a new school and has shown real bravery and positivity through a challenging time - and her mum tells us she absolutely loves coming to Wednesday matches. We can't wait for her to have such a special day at Hillsborough.
