Safeguarding Network supports DSLs in schools and colleges with training materials, supervision and support in their work with students at risk. We have reviewed our position on X who we believe have a responsibility to create a safe environment for all users. X does not currently take responsibility for the power of the tools it creates, including Grok and in particular the image tools it offers. This places children at risk. We have decided to cease posting on this platform - we are widely available elsewhere - see links below. We have also ended our subscription to X, effective April. We look forward to continuing our conversations on other channels. Thank you for your support. The Department for Education (DfE) has today announced new training courses available to all teaching staff. The training will aim to deepen knowledge of how to adapt teaching to meet a wide range of special educational needs in the classroom, including visual impairments and speech and language needs. The DfE says the courses are being funded by a £200million investment. Behind the training will be a new expectation set out in the SEND Code of Practice, that all staff in every nursery, school and college should receive training on SEND and inclusion - making sure that every teacher nationwide is reached. When child abuse and neglect are identified, children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are more highly represented. Whilst the DfE have instigated this new initiative with effective and inclusive education in mind, understanding the child’s world and seeking to ensure positive and supportive relationships are the cornerstone of effective safeguarding and we look forward to seeing what opportunities this new programme brings to safeguarding practice. Read the press release: zurl.co/q06bd Find out more about the specific risks for children with SEND on our information page packed with free resources: zurl.co/ilJRo #safeguarding #safeguardingeducation #childprotection #SEND #SpecialEducationalNeedsandDisabilities

We wanted to let you know that we have some spaces left on our Suicide Prevention training on Wednesday 28th January 2026 at 1pm.  Just £35 +VAT. The course will be delivered in a single 1.5 hour session by PAPYRUS, the leading UK charity dedicated to preventing young suicide and promoting positive mental health in young people. Suicide is the biggest killer of people aged 35 and under in the UK. We believe that suicide is often preventable. The key objectives are: - To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide - To explore the language, and the challenges, when talking openly about suicide - To recognise the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide - To consider how we can all contribute to a suicide-safer community. The VAWG Strategy – What it Means for Educators The Government’s 'Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy' sets out a ten-year ambition to halve violence against women and girls by tackling it early, consistently and across society. For education settings, the message is that schools and colleges are central to prevention, early identification and cultural change. The Government positions education as one of the most powerful environments for shaping attitudes, challenging harmful behaviour and supporting children and young people affected by violence and abuse.
