Itachi’s entire plan collapses completely the moment Sasuke dies because Sasuke surviving was never incidental to what Itachi was building toward, it was the entire architecture. Every decision Itachi made from the massacre forward was load bearing on one outcome: Sasuke living long enough to kill him, awakening the Eternal Mangekyou through that grief, and then being strong enough to protect Konoha with those eyes if Tobi ever revealed the truth. Remove Sasuke from that equation and Itachi has spent fifteen years of suffering, sacrifice and terminal illness for a plan that produced nothing except a dead clan and a missing nin reputation. The immediate aftermath would have been devastating in a way the series never really prepares you for. Itachi finding out Deidara killed Sasuke before he could complete the plan means the one person he protected everything for is gone, his eyes have no successor, and the Eternal Mangekyou transfer he needed for Konoha’s long term protection becomes impossible. Itachi was already dying. Without Sasuke as the endpoint that death becomes meaningless rather than sacrificial. The broader story implications are genuinely catastrophic. No Sasuke means no one to fight Itachi and trigger the Amaterasu trap for Tobi. No Amaterasu transfer means Tobi’s Sharingan never gets neutralized at the crucial moment. The Fourth War’s dynamic shifts completely because one of its most important pieces, Sasuke’s eventual defection back toward protecting the village, never happens. Deidara killing Sasuke doesn’t just end one character’s arc. It unravels about four simultaneous threads that the entire second half of the series was quietly depending on.

Zanpakuto as we know them didn’t exist before Oetsu Nimaiya. He’s literally called the “God of the Sword” for a reason. Before him, Shinigami just used regular Asauchi (blank swords) or basic katanas with no spirit, no Shikai, and definitely no Bankai. They were basically normal weapons with some spiritual energy. Oetsu created the original Zanpakuto by infusing them with souls and forging the system that lets a Shinigami’s power manifest as a spirit. He’s the one who started the whole Asauchi mass-production process that the academy uses today. Everything we see with Ichigo, Byakuya, etc. started because of this man.
