So some serious reactivation is required. Lots of face to face contact needed with some extra help for longer term workless. DWP trying hard on this but stuck with inadequate resource for the scale of the task at the frontline. Your views?

So if you are in empl you are well positioned to get another job if you want. But if you are in u/e esp if recently i/a you are stuck - in some local labour mkts but not all

@billwells_1 Interested in your thoughts on rise in level and rate of u/e. Mostly about flows. So inactivity outflows to u/e are rising because i/a people loooking for work in greater numbers. ( Same people but rebadged) Also flows out of emp and u/e falling(!) Am I wrong?

For my DWP and running followers some very sad news. Bob Dover OBE passed away this week after a short illness. He worked for DWP from 1961-2003. Former President of @BingleyHarriers England XC International and a great man who will be sorely missed.

Which also means that there are more people than you think just down the road who really care about UC. I do feel the commentariat somehow just don’t get this but are assuming it’s an arcane business for the deeply poverty-stricken. Not so.

And that means it will sit at the heart of employability and skills actions for years to come whether we like it or not. Huge in policy and delivery. And of course therefore highly political.

Sometimes governments make decisions that are just obviously wrong and ill-considered. This is an example.

For employment support and welfare reform where partnership is imperative this is seriously flawed guidance. Major benefit changes and new employment programmes can only be sensibly designed, launched and delivered with senior officials able to speak out and answer questions
