OFFICIAL: The Miami HEAT have acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. from Milwaukee in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kasparas Jakučionis, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, three 1st round picks (2026, 2031 & 2033), a 2030 1st round pick swap and a 2033 2nd round pick.

Would add this: The Heat ultimately made a very smart move by not trading Ware for Durant or anyone else and holding him for a Giannis trade. Ideally, the patience would pay off here as well.... Only time will tell -- which is a phrase that AI says (much to my surprise) has been used since 431 BC, when the classical Greek playwright Euripides said it.

Per source, Anfernee Simons would have welcomed Heat interest but Heat conveyed in past 24 hours that it would be willing to give him only the minimum. (I would have done it to provide a younger player, explosive scoring, but Heat ultimately decided no.) It's a gamble. To me, LaVine is the only KNOWN person out there who would be worth this gamble for (if Kings waive and stretch him, which is very questionable, and if Heat gets him.) Huge respect to Beal, and he would be fine of course, but recent injuries raise concerns there.

Again, the Heat is very selective with players it pursues or how much it will offer those players. Miami did not pursue Morant or Trae Young (or Simons at a number he wanted). The summer needs to play out before determining with certainty whether bypassing Simons at affordable salary was the prudent move.

As Marc and I have noted, there was Heat interest, but not at the number that the 76ers gave him --- a number that the Heat could have offered under its hard cap. (Miami instead is gambling that it can get someone potentially better or lower priced. We'll see.) Size, length at that position is being prioritized, as we noted this morning.

Anfernee Simons has managed to score a new deal from Philadelphia richer than the offers made by Golden State and Miami and chooses the 76ers over Dallas' interest as well. Source close to the talks confirms that the scoring guard has verbally agreed to sign with Philadelphia.
