🚨 BREAKING: Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry is expected to announce Friday that he’s canceling the May 16th primary election — after absentee ballots have already been sent and early voting has begun — so the state can redraw its congressional maps and eliminate two Black majority districts.
Why? Because the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority just gutted the Voting Rights Act, ruling that Louisiana’s map — which was redrawn specifically to protect Black voters’ representation — was an “unconstitutional racial gerrymander.”
Here’s the jaw-dropping part: people have already voted. Those votes could be thrown out.
This is what voter suppression looks like in real time. A sitting governor, using a radical Supreme Court ruling as cover, canceling an election already in progress to redraw maps that dilute Black political power — before November.
