I love this essay @SarahRebell wrote for @TDFNYC about how women characters in musicals are rarely valued for their brains. A lot has been written about sexism in musicals, but not specifically about how working women are treated. It’s not pretty.

How interesting that critics don’t seem to take issue w/ “il mondo era vuoto” being in another language but KPOP got a lot of grief for doing the same thing - just in Korean, not Italian. #doublestandards

When @GillianRRusso asked me to write a fun, upbeat piece about @TheTonyAwards by the numbers for @NYTheatreGuide, I came upon some pretty sobering stats: No non-white woman has won a Tony in either musical writing category (Book or Best Score). Let's hope that changes on Sunday.
