@MCCCANM @GadsdenDave Fire suppression systems don’t stop a lithium ion battery once it’s in thermal runaway. All you can do is cool the batteries around it to prevent them from going too and ventilate the flammable gases. Source: firefighter.

@GadsdenDave Not to my knowledge, no. They aren’t allowed in checked bags because you can’t get to those compartments in flight (but they have pretty good fire detection & suppression systems).

There are special gloves that are used to put a burning Lithium Ion battery into a “Fire Bag” that will contain it until landing. I don’t know how long the bag can contain it; fire in the cabin over the ocean is a nightmare scenario.
