Former Scout Jack Cornwell was fatally injured at the Battle of Jutland but with his crew killed around him stayed at his post in case he was needed. Posthumously awarded the VC Jack’s bravery inspired Scouting’s highest gallantry award still awarded today heritage.scouts.org.uk/exhibitions/sc…

Vera Barclay had become a Scout leader in 1912 aged 19 years and opened one of the pioneering Cub packs in 1914. During the First World War she became a Red Cross nurse and kept up her Scouting encouraging other women to do the same. heritage.scouts.org.uk/exhibitions/ea…
