If you suffered in life and want other people to suffer as you did because “you turned out fine,” you did not In fact turn out fine.

Elizabeth Shaw - Overcoming Narcissist Abuse.
A NARCISSIST WANTS TO CONVINCE YOU THAT YOUR REACTIONS TO THEIR ACTIONS ARE THE PROBLEM WHEN WITHOUT THEIR ACTIONS, THERE WOULD BE NO REACTIONS.

People lose their lives to psychological and emotional abuse. I almost did. This kind of abuse isn’t just about hurt feelings. It distorts your reality, destroys your self trust and esteem, traps your body in chronic survival and can wear you down mentally, physically and spiritually until you collapse. And then the ones who harmed you will point at your collapse as evidence you are the problem. People need to stop talking about these relationships like they are just difficult or “toxic.” For many, they are life threatening.

An authentic person will always win against a narcissist. A narcissist plays God while an authentic person lives within God’s actual protection.

@Dearme2_ Just a personal opinion here but I think most harm doesn’t just come from evil people. It comes from people who decided your pain costs less than their discomfort. For me that’s harder to deal with than evil.

People aren’t mentally sick anymore — they are intentionally evil. That’s the reality.

@jameslmft But do they actually want to change? I would say two of the key attributes are lack of real empathy and a need for control.

Narcissism has four main components: 1. Fragility (you can’t handle criticism) 2. Indifference (you don’t care about people very much) 3. Superiority (you look down on people.) 4. Manipulation (you distort reality) These are all designed to be defense against not feeling good enough. To help a narcissist change, you have to be able to say exactly what you think in the kindest way possible. It's incredibly difficult. When people talk about narcissism on the internet, it's mostly a collection of insults and put downs. You can have compassion for a person and still see them clearly. You can have compassion for a person and still tell them what you really think. Narcissism exists on a spectrum. The more narcissistic someone is, the deeper the pain they're trying to hide from.

If someone knows you’re already carrying the weight of grief, health struggles, hardship, or any major loss and still chooses to treat you cruelly, that goes beyond abuse. That’s not ignorance or carelessness... that’s straight malice.

I have swallowed psychiatric drugs w/ the promise of healing my #mentalillness which actually was #CPTSD from #trauma. The drugs made me even more psychotic. I’m almost four years off all psychiatric drugs & no longer obey the pseudoscience of conventional #psychiatry-never again

@AliBeckZeck @SearchingTLight Absolutely. And if many adults can’t survive emotional and psychological online abuse, imagine the potential consequences for kids who face this type of toxic abuse online, and don’t yet have the awareness nor the tools needed to address it.

Hot take: Toxic families don’t address what actually happened. They attack the person who pointed it out and make them the problem.
