As for the original Joseph, he’d actually stay a good guy, and it’s later revealed that he and the new Magneto (who named himself “Magnus” after his “father’s” middle name) are actually the twin clone “sons” of the original Magneto.

However, Magneto 2 is someone who looked up to Magneto in the past, but thought he didn’t go far enough and that he became “weak”. This new Magneto seeks to “complete” his namesake’s mission, and would be a mix of Ultimate Magneto and Joseph during his villain arcs.
