@SeftonGreens In the council chamber, Sefton's Labour councillors voted for the Liberal Democrat motion calling for the cap to be scrapped. Every Sefton Labour MP just voted to retain it. We're not sure if it's hypocrisy... or if our Labour councillors have lost their MPs numbers...

Delighted that fast progress is being made on plans by Lib Dem-run Westmorland and Furness Council to build their own solar farm - taking real, tangible action to reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment and generate our own green electricity. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Our councillors in Southport urged the new MP to vote to end the cap - but he was not among the 7 rebels that Labour have already suspended. x.com/GLJMeols/statu… We commend Liverpool West Derby MP @IanByrneMP for standing up against his party, and his colleagues in Sefton.

Correction for accuracy: the cap is on Universal Credit & benefits for working families (and those who are seeking work / cannot work for medical reasons) - not "Child Benefit" (Though for those affected by the cap, this is a distinction without a difference.)

Southport's new Labour MP used one of his first votes to prolong a Tory policy - rather than listening to experts campaigning against child poverty. He was urged to join the @LibDems who voted to scrap the two-child cap on child benefits. Labour whipped their MPs to keep it.

For all @UKLabour voters in Southport, Sefton Central, and Bootle who are already disappointed by their MP's lack of conviction - or the new government's false promise of change: Join the opposition - help us hold them to account locally and nationally. Libdems.org.uk/join-local

BREAKING 🔶: The Lib Dems have voted en masse to scrap the two-child benefit cap, which has today been called "cruel and regressive". Meanwhile, the Labour government has whipped its MPs to support the cruel measure, even suspending the handful who defied the whip.

Can Sefton Labour please tell us if they support the two child benefit cap? Many of the residents in Sefton are left suffering due to this policy. Yet the Labour Party supports it?

The Liberal Democrats will keep pushing to scrap the two-child benefit cap that keeps families in poverty. Because every child deserves a fair chance to fulfil their potential.

I have just taken part in my first formal vote in the House. I supported both our own @libdem admendment to the Kings Speech and also the SNP admendment as both called for ending the 2 child benefit cap.

Pleased that my 1st vote as MP was to lift the 2 child benefit cap. V disappointed Labour has refused to give ground & will keep cap in place. Lifting the cap is the most efficient lever to lift children out of poverty in UK. That’ll be Labour’s child benefit cap then @LibDems
