Lamu's Kililana is sediment prone and had to undergo dredging. Kilindini was once a river valley drowned by rising sea levels. So good is its navigability that the Royal Navy installed anti-submarine defences at Ras Serani & FJ during the World Wars in fear of the Japanese Navy.

The Kilindini habour is the biggest natural gift that Mombasa has. It's width is 300 metres and it's natural depth >55 metres making it ideal for ship manoeuvring. The Mtwapa channel is narrow and it can't measure up. The one at Takaungu is shallow and it so it doesn't compare.

I have a theory: hizi predator energy drinks, and their equivalent. Truckers, bus drivers, and boda guys, zitawamaliza. They are bad products in the first place, and then there's the concerning issue of how much they are consuming. Some can take 2 - 3 per day

BasiGo begins Local Assembly of Electric Vans in Kenya BasiGo has commenced local assembly of its electric vans in Kenya - the Ma3e model, delivering the country's first locally assembled electric vans. In partnership with Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA), a leading Kenyan contract manufacturer based in Mombasa, the vans are being built from Complete Knocked Down (CKD) kits, with the first 22 locally built units set for delivery to customers in April and May. Designed for high-utilisation operations, the Ma3e has a range of up to 300 km (NEDC) and supports a broad set of use cases - including public transport service, school shuttles, corporate staff transport, airport transfers, and hotel shuttle services. Over the past 10 months, BasiGo has been operating two electric vans on intercity routes, including Nyahururu-Nyeri-Nakuru and Nairobi-Thika. Their strong performance has validated both the product and the operating model, driving a reservation pipeline of over 500 units. Local assembly is now the critical next step to unlock scale of the Ma3e. Looking ahead, BasiGo plans to deploy thousands of electric vans across Kenya, accelerating the country’s climate commitments and positioning Kenya as a blueprint for clean, inclusive transport solutions. #Roadto1000 #ElectricMatatu

If Kenya were as civilized as Japan, DP Kindiki would have apologized to the nation, then committed suicide. In a poor nation where citizens still starve to death, how do you spend a whole Kshs. 153 million in 2 months on choppers? Despicable!

#BREAKING Turkish, Somali media reporting State Petroleum Corp. (TPAO) with major stakes in Somalia offshore oil and gas project will establish oil refinery in Mogadishu to refine Somali crude to service markets in East Africa and beyond. The Iran War has exposed vulnerability of African economies to reliance on Gulf oil and gas. Improved African refining capability viewed as game changing.

Advanced maternal age debate, in a nutshell. A serious topic washed down by juvenile enthusiasm and lack of knowledge from prior reading or research on the topic. This was one sitting where the benefit of hindsight would have laid bare the vagaries of the reality of life, after hours: that women's fertility begins to gradually decrease at about age 35. The jokes stop immediately conception is attempted after marriage at an advanced age and such risks as miscarriage, gestational diabetes, fetal chromosomal abnormalities, preterm birth and stillbirth come knocking- after telling everyone on television that marriage (presumably with kids) isn't a deadline.

Marriage Isn’t A Deadline Kerry Kagiri Kamau: It actually seemed like I was never going to be married, and it’s because there was a deadline or a timeline that I set for myself and everyone set for me. #NTVElevate

The true Head of State has spoken. The 16% VAT was never a domestic policy; it was an IMF conditionality to guarantee foreign debt repayment. The Executive panicked and broke the IMF's rules to stop a domestic Hustler revolt, and now Washington is violently yanking the leash. This warning proves that Kenya's economic sovereignty is an illusion, and it guarantees that the 90-day 8% VAT 'relief' will snap back to 16% the second the IMF demands it.

Ghana quietly crossing the $100b barrier that makes some serious people to start paying attention is good news. Uganda should be here in 2-3 years owing to the expected boon from oil. The new barrier is $200b line for serious places in Africa.
Downfall of us All@Mbwesaa

IMF just released the April updates on economic outlook. F1(Nominal GDP) F2(GDP per capita) South Africa continues to dominate in Africa. East Africa continues to be incredibly poor with Kenya leading the poverty Olympics in that region.

Turkey is doing something almost no country in the modern financial system has managed to do. It is eating punishment from the TPS and building its way out of the trap at the same time. A mid-sized country has two options presented to it: comply or defy. Egypt complied. It took the IMF loans, floated the pound on command, privatized state assets at distressed valuations, and opened its capital account. This resulted in structural dependency, currency destruction, and debt servicing that consumes a third of government revenue. Turkey defied. It bought the S-400, ran unilateral military operations, and told Western institutions to extract elsewhere. This resulted in a coordinated Lira attack through offshore London trading, credit rating downgrades timed to political events rather than fiscal data, and capital flight that hit the retail exchange rate hard enough to send a message. Both paths lead to the same room. The system does not reward compliance or punish defiance. It extracts from both. The binary has always been the trap with the TPS. But here is what makes Turkey different. Erdogan absorbed the 2018 punishment, understood the mechanism, and started building the capabilities that reduce the TPS’s coercive tactics for next time. This is the third path that the system is specifically designed to prevent targets from identifying. The defense industry is the clearest example. In 2018, Turkey's dependence on Western arms supply chains was a leverage point. Cut the parts, ground the jets, squeeze the procurement. Today Turkey exports $8.5 billion in defense equipment to 37 countries. You cannot use arms dependency as a chokehold on a country that builds its own drones and sells them to your allies. The GCC rapprochement is another. Turkey's 2018 vulnerability was concentrated in Western capital markets and European export dependency. The Syria reconstruction handler role, built jointly with Qatar and backed by Saudi investment, creates an alternative capital flow that does not run through the institutions that attacked Turkey in 2018. You do not financially discipline a country that your Gulf partners need for a multi-decade project worth hundreds of billions. The TPS is not ignoring this. Turkey ETF still trades below book value. All three rating agencies still hold Turkey below investment grade. The scar discount from 2018 is enforced through the same institutional machinery that created it. The message clearly says ‘we remember what you did, and the price stays until we decide otherwise.’ But the chokehold is loosening and the data shows it. Institutional ownership of Turkey’s ETF is up 9.91% quarter over quarter. Twenty-five new positions opened against nineteen closed. The smart money sees what the rating agencies refuse to acknowledge. Turkey's structural position is strengthening faster than the punishment architecture can contain it. I think the TPS's problem with Turkey is that Turkey found the third door. Not compliance, not defiance, but diversification executed under the cover of both. Erdogan's rhetoric stays defiant. His actual monetary policy pivoted to orthodoxy. His defense industry reduces import dependency. His Gulf relationships provide alternative capital channels. The prisoner who behaves and the prisoner who rebels both stay prisoners. Turkey is the prisoner who is tunneling.

If I'm not wrong, during these times fuel was still zero rated in Kenya. Then UhuRuto, in their questionable wisdom, Cho'se to amend the VAT Act and add 16% VAT on fuel. After widespread public outcry, the govt reduced the rate to 8% until the current regime took over and immediately raised the rate to 16%.
