The loss is not just to his family, but the entire medical fraternity and the country at large. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may God comfort us all.

Dedicated his life to serving the country through storms, a great physician, an HIV clinician and researcher, head of the division of medicine at Sally Mugabe Hospital, leader in medical associations, effective communicator.

The ZSHDA @SeniorDoctors family mourns the passing on of a beloved and adored colleague, mentor, teacher and doctor to many, Dr Tapiwanashe Bwakura.

The responsible authorities must consider making the learning environment safer for both learners and educators and allow learning activities to go on.

Again reports from elsewhere have shown increased rates of dropping out of schools, and these children may never make it back to school or make it in life. We are therefore concerned with the decision to defer opening of schools whilst other businesses go on.

Already, there have been several reports of illicit substance use among our adolescents, increase in child marriages and teenage pregnancies, all of which are serious public health challenges.

For health-care workers correct use of adequate and appropriate personal protective equipment remains our indispensable friend. For all Zimbabweans, let's prioritize regular check ups and aim for optimal control of chronic diseases.

We hope that all stakeholders involved in COVID-19 mitigation policies formulation will make rational decisions based on evidence/science.

Travel bans are unjustified and unnecessarily punitive to Southern African countries. We encourage public health measures guided by science not politics at this point. Similarly, local restrictive measures should also be guided by local transmission patterns.

In the face of widespread global transmission of the SARS-COV-2 Omicron variant, collaborative efforts to limit the spread are needed, including unified efforts to fight vaccine nationalism and ensure global equitable distribution.

Omicron is a symptom of global vaccine inequality. We're not safe, until everyone is safe.

It is our responsibility as the people to do what we can to minimize SARS-CoV-2 transmissions, and avoid overburdening our public health sector which is already strained and faces several challenges including gross manpower and resource challenges.
