Maths Week Day 4: S1 made posters about a famous mathematician. Not only did we have posters on Einstein, Newton and Da Vinci but also on Turing, Al-Khwarizmi and even Kovalevskaya. We used the Timeline of Maths on Mathigon to get started mathigon.org/timeline @mathsweekscot

Maths Week Day 3: Our S1 pupils were investigating pentominoes! The aim was to find all 12 pentominoes by rearranging five squares into different shapes. They then had to see if they could fit all 12 pentominoes into a rectangle on transum.org/maths/activity… @mathsweekscot

Maths Week Day 2: S3 had the chance to “meet a scientist” today with Dynamic Earth. A cryptographer spoke to our pupils about the history of code breaking and cryptology in this current digital age. Pupils had a go at some @NtlMuseumsScot code breaking themselves @mathsweekscot

Maths Week Day 2: S2 have been exploring Maths Tales by creating their very own Zine! Historically, zines were a way of promoting information before we had social media and the internet. Check out these colourful little pamphlets #MathsWeekScotland @mathsweekscot

Maths Week Day 2: S1 have continued to produce pi-kus. Today’s pi-kus are very creative! Who knew that poetry was so interwoven with maths? @mathsweekscot #MathsWeekScotland

Maths Week Day 2: S1 have been exploring Maths Tales by creating Hitomizashi Patterns using binary code. These patterns originate from North Japan where they are stitched and used to patch worn clothing @mathsweekscot #MathsWeekScotland

We kicked off @mathsweekscot by creating Pi-kus with S1 today! A haiku but using a 3-1-4 format instead of the classic 5-7-5 #pi-ku #MathsWeekScot

With prelims on the horizon, we always say the best way to study in Maths is to keep doing past paper questions. Don’t forget that it’s also really useful to familiarise yourself with the SQA marking schemes. Try a past paper and mark it as if you are an examiner #revisiontips

This week, S1 have been learning to collect like terms. We have been using interactive algebra tiles and algebra discs on mathsbot.com to visually see the zero pairs disappear when using a CPA approach. Using this approach links to previous learning of negative numbers
