143 million people thought they were catching Pokémon. They were actually building one of the largest real-world visual datasets in AI history.
Niantic just disclosed that photos and AR scans collected through Pokémon Go have produced a dataset of over 30 billion real-world images. The company is now using that data to power visual navigation AI for delivery robots.
Players didn't just walk around with their phones. They scanned landmarks, storefronts, parks, and sidewalks from every angle, at every time of day, in lighting and weather conditions that staged photography would never capture. They documented the physical world at a scale no mapping company with a fleet of vehicles could have replicated on the same timeline or budget.
Niantic collected this systematically, data point by data point, across eight years, while users thought the only thing at stake was catching a rare Charizard.
The most valuable AI training datasets in the world aren't being assembled in data centers. They're being built by people who have no idea they're building them.

JUST IN: Afroman drops a banger before the lawsuit against him goes to court Monday in Adams County, Ohio.
Afroman just released “Batteram Hymns of the Police Whistle Blower” a day before the lawsuit heads to court.
Adams County sheriffs are suing Joseph Foreman for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress for featuring them in his music videos from the night they raided and vandalized his house and allegedly stole $400.
In the new song and video, he calls the deputies out by name, packed with videos photos from the raid and some AI to make it comical.
Pretty ballsy.

NEW: Rapper Afroman is scheduled to stand trial in a civil lawsuit filed by seven Adams County (Ohio) Sheriff’s deputies.  The legal battle stems from a 2022 raid on Afroman's home, where officers were investigating alleged drug trafficking and kidnapping claims that resulted in no charges. Afroman used his own security footage from the raid to create music videos which mock the officers and the "botched" operation.  The officers allege that Afroman used their personas for commercial profit without authorization, causing them "humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, and loss of reputation". They are seeking damages of $25,000 per count.

Black-owned bookstores in the U.S. now have their own directory for the first time ever, launched by the nonprofit National Association of Black Bookstores — who found that:
• There are 306 Black-owned bookstores nationwide (8% of independent bookstores)
• 14 states have no Black-owned bookstore
• Nearly 90% report annual revenue at under $250,000
• Sales of books by Black authors declined by 14%, despite an increase in overall print sales

Today she Bonded 3 People Out of the Fulton County Jail for $85 Each There’s a Georgia law that allows you to bond three people out of jail per year, and today she used that opportunity to help three people who simply couldn’t afford to get out. These were nonviolent offenses, the kinds of minor charges where people often remain in jail not because they’re a danger, but because they’re poor. Think about this: It costs Fulton County taxpayers about $115 per day per inmate to keep someone in jail. Yet there are people sitting in jail on $50, $85, or other bonds under $100 simply because they don’t have the money. Does that make any sense? Not talking about people who are harming others or committing serious crimes. Talking about petty, nonviolent offenses, things like jaywalking, disorderly conduct, and other small charges. So today she did her part. She helped three people get out in 2026, just like she did in 2025. It’s a small step, but it’s one way to help while she and others work toward addressing the larger jail overpopulation crisis in Fulton County.
