Hirofumi Yoshimura, the Governor of Osaka Prefecture and a prominent Japanese politician, has just dropped a brand-new regular playlist series on his official YouTube channel! The Origin of Shika-yan Name On April 3, 2026, an official naming ceremony was held. Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura suggested the name "Shika-yan," which ultimately won a public vote. Linguistically, "Shika" means deer in Japanese. "Yan" is a common suffix in the local Kansai dialect used for friendly emphasis (similar to "...right?" or "...isn't it?"). "Shika" = Deer 🦌 "Yan" = Kansai slang for "...ain't it?" It literally translates to "It's a deer, ain't it!"—an endearing, punchy nickname for a friendly, nosy deer. 🍡
