South Africa only produces 20,000 artisans per year, but needs 30,000 to meet infrastructure, energy and industrial demand.
Some causes of the shortage include:
1. Closing artisan training schools
2. Insufficient practical exposure
3. Migration of skilled artisans
4.Unattractiveness of being an artisan
There was a time prior to 2022 where we produced just 172,805 artisans over a ten year period. This was (and still is) below the required annual target.
This is a direct result of Thabo Mbeki's actions and as such, ANC is on track to miss their own deadline of
producing 30,000 artisans per year until 2030 in line with the NDP.

This is Sakhile Ntsele, a 19-year-old who was found with a cache of homemade firearms and seven improvised explosive devices at his home in south London. Authorities revealed that Ntsele had become fixated on weapons, spending hours watching online videos on how to build firearms and create explosives from his bedroom. Detective Inspector Raymond Sekalongo stated that while it is unclear what Ntsele ultimately intended, the weapons he produced had the potential to cause serious harm. The case highlights how easily young people can access dangerous content online and be influenced into criminal activity. Ntsele pleaded guilty to possession of ammunition without a certificate and five counts of possession of a firearm without a certificate. After an 11-day trial, he was also found guilty of eight counts of making explosive substances for unlawful purposes. He has been sentenced to four years in prison and will remain under an extended licence for five years after his release.

I dont understand why in SA we have this notion that a young/youngish player who has a 1st team contract but is not established in the senior team cant go back to play DDC. DDC was established for that exact “grey area” Mabaso and the young Sundowns players find themselves in now
