Let’s be honest, his move from Barca to PSG really hurt his reputation. If he had stayed at Barcelona for another 2 or 3 years, I’m convinced the narrative would be completely different. Most of the people saying this probably didn’t even follow him closely at PSG.

Cancelo isn’t bad in 1v1 defensive duels, he can actually be decent in that regard. But his main defensive problem is tracking runners and marking his winger. Players tend to get away from him easily, and he often tunnels on the ball, leaving his mark completely free, exactly what happened last night with Elanga.
Don't get me wrong, this doesn’t make Cancelo anywhere near a bad signing. He’s extremely useful in certain matchups, not just useful, i would even say a difference-maker. But in big games, I still insist that i trust Balde more defensively.

@Barca4life733 @BouafifNour The problem at Barca is that we literally don't have a left winger. Constricting our left back to defensive duties will essentially kill the left flank. The opposition right back and winger will operate freely because Rapha isn't present. It would be like the Inter match again

What Cancelo does is what Fullbacks call “cheating defensively “. So one will track back enough with the hope your CBs solve the situation and you will have an offensive advantage if they do. The problem with that is if they don’t there’s a “free man” in your defensive area. Cancelo did the exact same thing against PSG in his last loan spell and he did it yesterday again. The ultimate goal of any fullback is to DEFEND first and offense is just a bonus. If not, really good teams recognize and exploit that.
