I think perfect preperation happened too suddenly imo, like as a maki fan it feels like pure catharsis rather than historical grounding/worldbuilding and analysis of the dynamics itself and how the clan is what it is.
i really favor perfect prep and its written pretty greatly but it just focuses on destruction rather than development, of course this is Geges storytelling and i think Maki's Massacre was needed for her to progress, but really, i do think before this there should've been atleast some type of exploration of their past or Kamo/Gojo clan expeditions because theres just tidbits that dont give you a full picture of how and why.
I think Gege focuses on the present WAYY too much, like he honestly seems to forget hes kinda doing a framed narrative story, JJK is present day and while thats good he started the story in the middle of like everything, we were dropped into the story while everything was already developed and he barely even tells you how or why its that way and just shows you the now.
The reader is kinda like Yuji in a way, we were literally thrown into a battlefield that exists prior to us and we're just kinda like "why" and no one actually gives us a historical grounding or explaination. 😭
In terms of Perfect Prep, as a character moment, its incredibly satisfying and full of catharsis. As worldbuilding, it's almost like burning down a museum before you've been allowed to walk through it.
JJK constantly hints at a much larger world than the one it actually chooses to show. The setting feels like it has centuries of history behind it, but Gege is usually interested in the consequences of that history rather than the history itself and how it even got that way in the first place.
Im not even asking jjk to be like one piece just slow down a bit akutami 😭😭
But yeah, honestly, once the massacre happens, Gege is basically putting the pen down with the Zenin Clan as a whole and I don't think it should be that way narratively.

Honestly the sparse population of the clans was always interesting to me, the Zenin clan is lowkey like a small gated community to me rather than a historical japanese clan because most back then would accumulate thousands (without the dilemma of cursed techniques)
Gege actually explicitly listed the casualties at the end of the massacre (which was around 100 something) and I did a little calculation which puts the amount of members in total of the Zenin Clan (during perfect prep) around 100-200.
I just thought it was really interesting that the clans have very low populations for being like the powerhouses of jujutsu to the point where they influence the politics behind it, makes me think how important they are from an outside standpoint.
Its also worth mentioning the Zenin Clan is the only clan showed, its possible that if there are members in the Gojo clan they dont matter at all, since as far as we know there is no other inherited techique from them besides Gojo's (Same with the Kamo Clan).
The Zenin Clan probably has such a low population due to the bottleneck, but I'm just generally curious because they do keep people alive even if they don't have a cursed technique and are female (Maki), so I wonder whats making their population so low in general, purposefully being an outcast to the Zenin Clan if ur not Toji or Maki is pretty difficult (especially since you probably don't have the strength to do so).
Idk its just really interesting, Gege clearly did not want to build these clans at all because its just kinda show not tell, his storytelling does that a lot but with clans i think it hurts the most since the zenin clan is the worst to show IMO (The Kamo Clan has great history elements [concubinage, bloodline relevance, traditionalism aligning with Jujutsu Tech] and the Gojo Clan is just... the Gojo clan, its supposed to be the strongest yet we only see the Zenin Clan)😭

extra: The Kamo clan was an elite hereditary onmyōji family during the real heian period and historically commanded spirits/shikigami (which honestly makes me wonder why the zenin clan are the ones with ten shadows rather than them)
its most likely bc the kamo clan creator in the story (Emperor Sutoku, one of the big three vengeful spirits) has a story of him biting his tongue and writing a curse in his own blood on a scroll, vowing to become a demon that would overthrow the emperor and the nation
ss taken from fanbook btw

extra: oh yeah btw there TECHNICALLY is a real life jujutsu tech in japanese history, its whats referred to as the Onmyōryō, which is government bureau established and peaked during the Heian Period
The government hired specialists called Onmyōji. Just like Jujutsu Sorcerers, their official civil service job was to read omens, manage calendars, perform divination, and cast state-sanctioned magical rituals to ward off evil spirits and plagues
The Onmyōryō even operated a highly restrictive, state-funded school to train young students in the occult arts before they became official government agents, exactly like the JujuTech Branches.

Honestly I find Mai's involvement with the relationship between them interesting too, Its highly likely Mai was sent to Kyoto to keep her stifled politically especially since she doesnt have the potential to be promoted as high as maki because of her prowess.
By separating the twins, Naobito achieved isolation from Maki's rebellious exterior, making it so Mai wouldnt be influenced to rebel, he also made it so neither twin could ever amass enough power or status to challenge the clan leadership (because he knows one of them dying would cause the other to be stronger.)
They purposefully don't give Mai cursed tools or anything to compensate for her inefficent cursed technique because of her low energy, and like i keep mentioning in previous threads she likely got her guns from government-sanction (or other private means) rather than the clan itself.
Naobito forced both of them to a destiny specifically designed to keep them weak and dependent on the clan, but Maki stood above that.

I dont know why people say that Maki and Naobito are fine with each other during Shibuya, bc they literally aren't 🧵
The entire reason why Naobito was in the Shibuya Incident was to ensure she wouldn't be promoted because he wants to stifle her growth
Even if she performed flawlessly, he possessed the authority to deny her advancement because shes rebellious
When he said he would make her life hell he was not lying at all, she has to rely on dorm housing, other clans for cursed tools (before perfect prep), and has to deal with certain restrictions under her life because of lack of freedom and control under Naobito
