The drama on ‘setting up a forward base’ near Isfahan was the initial plan. That plan blew up in the US/Israel face. So they had to adapt and called on their favourite Field Marshal because they know how desperate his weak Army is to appear strong. REAL strength and position comes from economic strength, political stability, and strategic independence. None of which is the focus of any commentator or analyst or politician peddling this ‘regional superpower’ grift. Ignore the simpletons deluding themselves into pretending we have more power than we actually have, focus on the real.

Regardless, the markets needed a boost this week. Pakistan was a patsy required because Trumps tweets didn’t do the trick anymore. They needed a third-party to lend credibility to the phantom ‘negotiations’ taking place. A few insiders including some in Pakistan likely made millions on the timing. Thats about it. At what cost though? Being a mediator comes with its own strings. Why do you think Oman refused any further mediation between the US/Iran? There isn’t a single ceasefire Israel or the US hasn’t violated. When that happens, the US/Israel will get to walk away and Pakistan…

But…the Agreement… How is today practically different from yesterday? -Strikes by Israel continuing on Lebanon and Iran -Missile strikes on the Laavan fields in Iran, responded to by Iran in Kuwait, UAE, and Iran already -Hormuz Strait still ‘closed off’ and the NOC mechanism still in effect. There is effectively no difference. The ‘agreement’ itself states that the 10 points by Iran form ‘a basis for negotiations’. The 10 points, btw, are the un-reported pre-conditions Iran set like two weeks ago. Not drafted by either Pakistan or the US. Whats harder to figure out is why Iran is even entertaining these theatrics.

We’re MEDIATORS between superpowers! Yes, a mediator who's completely beholden to one party, undergoing an economic meltdown, and zero capacity. What leverage does the Pak Military have over any of these parties? It can’t even negotiate the release of its own waters from India. And if you think its nuclear weapons please DM me I’d like to sell you a bridge.

Pakistanis regularly fall into the trap of over-compensation and over-excitement. How many cricket matches have we watched where our commentators conveniently gloss over every humiliating loss, only to lose their minds completely when we barely scrape by a win? Jingoism have blurred the reality for a lot of us who (understandably even) have been beleaguered by the constant repression and state-sponsored terror at home. I get it. We’ve been so beaten down that a remotely positive mention in the international media is enough to send us over the moon.
