Didn't see the usual day-or-two-before heads-up for this, but China's human spaceflight agency announced Shenzhou-21 astronauts Zhang Lu & Wu Fei completed a 7-hour EVA at 1135 UTC today. The usual installation of debris protection devices among the tasks. cmse.gov.cn/xwzx/202603/t2…

China's draft new 5-year plan indicates that space will be of growing importance to the country. Also noted: - Planetary defense - Solar system boundary exploration - Major interplanetary & lunar missions - integrated constellations (remote sensing, comms, PNT, computing, etc)

Artemis II update: engineers determined that a quick disconnect seal obstructed the flow of helium in the ICPS upper stage. Repairs have been made and are now being validated. They're also replacing batteries, and a seal on the core stage LOX line. nasa.gov/blogs/missions…

People are pointing out the absence of Lunar Gateway from NASA's new Artemis infographic. The last I saw the first element was expected to launch in December. But if it's cancelled maybe there's still a future for the hardware. The Power and propulsion element started as the Asteroid redirect vehicle with the most powerful ion propulsion system on any spacecraft. That in turn was supposed to be a demonstration of technologies for space tugs for Mars missions. But Jared has made it clear that nuclear reactors and propulsion in space is something NASA should be developing, so If gateway is shutdown I will not be surprised if this element ends up becoming a building block of a Nuclear electric propulsion demonstrator.

Acknowledgement of shortcomings in the current Artemis plan is healthy & a welcome change from past NASA leadership. The focus on Artemis spin over substance has been troubling since its inception. However, expressing confidence that we can add a flight in between & make two lunar landings in 2028 is more magical thinking. We didn't "wait" 3.5 yrs between launches because we wanted to, that is what it took. The new plan increases the probability that the next US Moon landing attempt will be successful - even though it is still likely more years away than we hope.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman@NASAAdmin

President Trump gave the world the Artemis Program, and NASA and our partners have the plan to deliver. We will standardize architecture where possible, add missions and accelerate flight rate, execute in an evolutionary way, and safely return American astronauts to the Moon, this time to stay. This is the NASA that once changed the world. This is the NASA that will do it again.

Isaacman also says the commercial partners have been included in the discussions leading to the decision. Artemis III could involve lander docking tests - of perhaps both SpaceX and Blue Origin landers. #Artemis

Wow - Jared Isaacman announcing Artemis III won’t be a lunar landing mission, that he wants to up the launch cadence for Artemis launches so they’re launching every 10 months, and potentially do two lunar landings in a year. Wants to rebuild the workforce at NASA. #Artemis

No specific mention of NASA or Artemis at the SOTU, but at the very end (almost 2 hours in) tracing the history of America, Trump said “and then we launched mankind into the stars on rockets powered by sheer American will and unyielding American pride.”

From NASA: NASA and SpaceX now are targeting no earlier 5:38 a.m. EST, Thursday, Feb. 12, for launch of the Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Mission teams completed a weather review on Monday and elected to waive off a Wednesday, Feb. 11, launch opportunity due to forecast weather conditions along the flight path of the Dragon spacecraft. Weather will continue to be a watch item on Feb 12, and conditions are expected to improve on Friday, Feb. 13.

Artemis II: Preliminary information points to a second WDR (Wet Dress Rehearsal) target of next Friday. Interestingly, there's talk of a NET launch date of March 3 (not previously in the windows), which could result in a daylight launch T-0. All subject to change of course, and hydrogen behaving. @_MaxQ_ photo for NSF:

‼️UPDATE: Artemis II postponed to no earlier than March 6th
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman@NASAAdmin

With the conclusion of the wet dress rehearsal today, we are moving off the February launch window and targeting March for the earliest possible launch of Artemis II. With more than three years between SLS launches, we fully anticipated encountering challenges. That is precisely why we conduct a wet dress rehearsal. These tests are designed to surface issues before flight and set up launch day with the highest probability of success. During the test, teams worked through a liquid hydrogen leak at a core stage interface during tanking, which required pauses to warm hardware and adjust propellant flow. All core stage and interim cryogenic propulsion stage tanks were successfully filled, and teams conducted a terminal countdown to about T-5 minutes before the ground launch sequencer halted operations due to an increased leak rate. Additional factors included extended Orion closeout work, intermittent ground audio dropouts, and cold-weather impacts to some cameras, along with the successful demonstration of updated Orion closeout purge procedures to support safe crew operations. As always, safety remains our top priority, for our astronauts, our workforce, our systems, and the public. As noted above, we will only launch when we believe we are as ready to undertake this historic mission. This is just the beginning. It marks the start of an Artemis program that will evolve to support repeated and affordable missions to the Moon, in line with President Trump’s national space policy. Getting this mission right means returning to the Moon to stay and a future to Artemis 100 and beyond. I want to thank the talented workforce at NASA, along with our industry and international partners, who are working tirelessly on this effort. The team will fully review the data, troubleshoot each issue encountered during WDR, make the necessary repairs, and return to testing. We expect to conduct an additional wet dress rehearsal and then target the March window. We will continue to keep the public and the media informed as readiness progresses.

Artemis II: 4:45pm EST NASA update: "NASA teams have completed filling the core stage of the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket with liquid hydrogen and transitioned to topping mode. Topping ensures the tank reaches its full capacity with super-cold liquid hydrogen chilled to minus 423 degrees Fahrenheit. Engineers continue to watch the leak at the interface of the tail service mast umbilical, but the liquid hydrogen concentration in the umbilical remains within acceptable limits."

As @DutchSpace pointed out, this incident means all 3 NASA WB57's are out of commission and Artemis II might launch before N926NA is out of inspection. But you know Inspiration 4 employed a private camera aircraft to get this shot , a Phenom 300 with stabilized camera.
