Don't belittle the "mundane," the "unspectacular." What's boring or trivial to you might be the thing that blows someone's mind and changes their life. Instead of taking things for granted, let's keep getting excited, keep seeing the beauty, no matter how often they happen.

The word’s largest camera built for astronomy and astrophysics has arrived at Rubin Observatory! The LSST Camera completed a cross-continental trek from @SLAClab after two decades of work, marking the arrival of Rubin’s last major component in Chile. 🔗: rubinobservatory.org/news/camera-ar…

If I never got into astronomical instrumentation, I may have lived a life of never actually seeing a deformable mirror (DM) in action. Now that I work on one, here's a video of a wibbly-wobbly DM... an engineering marvel behind many a crispy image of distant bodies.

We spoke with @SpaceSciSteph about planet nine and icy asteroids on Science Chat - but if you missed the discussion you HAVE to check out the recording. You can find it on the Science Pawdcast feed - anywhere podcasts are played. The discussion is out of this world!

Story time: Today's the last day of my LINCC (LSST Interdisciplinary Network for Collaboration & Computing) Frameworks Incubator. I had 3 months of software engineer time actively working on coding and 1 month ahead of time evaluating the code and coming up with a workplan

Where are we in the Universe, and how do we know? Thanks to a type of supernova that happens when a white dwarf explodes, called "Type Ia," scientists have made a map the Universe. ...but that map has revealed new mysteries to solve! 🔗: youtube.com/watch?v=Gw7CBU…

You're not from around here, are ya? ☄️ Interstellar objects come from star systems far, far away—& give scientists another way to learn about other systems. With #LSST, scientists will find many interstellar objects that would've remained hidden! 🔗: rubinobservatory.org/news/visitors-…

@Astropartigirl Natural bridges state park!! There are trails to tide pools and a monarch butterfly trail, though I have no idea what their seasonal activity is. It was incredibly cool when I was there in January

I have free time from 1 pm to spend exploring Santa Cruz tomorrow! I want to see the Arboretum, but if there's something that requires me to shift that to the weekend, that's fine. I love nature, marine life, animals, so these are priorities. I don't have a car. Any suggestions?

I've been on a few hiring committees now & here's my biggest interview advice: GIVE. SPECIFIC. EXAMPLES. It's ok to take a minute to think! Most people conceptually know the "right" answer, but the more you can "show" vs "tell" the better! Your tips? 👇
