Framing EDS, POTS, and MCAS as “overdiagnosed,” “misdiagnosed,” or “self-diagnosed” skips over the actual pattern: Delayed recognition. Fragmented care. Clinicians not trained to connect multisystem presentations. Patients step in to identify patterns because we have to, not because we want to. Calling that “overdiagnosis” doesn’t reflect a clinical reality. It reflects a system that’s behind.
Adam Gaffney@awgaffney

Over-diagnosis / misdiagnosis / self-diagnosis of EDS, MCAS, POTS, & Lyme is a real problem, and it would appear that there is little appetite by medical professionals to discuss this issue publicly.

This is the paradox patients are trapped in. 👉 Too emotional, you’re labeled a problem. 👉 Too composed, you’re not believed. So what’s the “right” amount of emotion? There isn’t one, because pain isn’t a performance. And yet patients are being evaluated like it is. That’s why conversations like this matter. For once, patients and clinicians are in the same space, in real time, on equal ground, not in an exam room, not in a waiting room, not filtered through charts or assumptions. If this hits your timeline, read both threads. Read the replies. Add your voice. Because what’s being debated here isn’t just tone. It’s whether people in real, documented pain, like the man in Georgia with kidney stones, are get treated, or being left behind on the floor of an ER waiting room. 👇 linking kidney stone post directly in reply section.
Rebecca Ryan@DrRebeccaRyan

@VinoNStrosGal Patients can’t win. If they are too emotional when in pain they are dismissed as drug seekers. If they don’t show enough emotion when in pain they are therefore not in pain. So what is the appropriate amount of emotion for any degree of pain?

This isn’t “medical gaslighting.” This is punishment. A patient in pain is crying, and instead of treating the pain, it’s being withheld until she behaves. That’s not care. That’s conditioning. And the most disturbing part? This isn’t rare. This is happening in ERs across the country, right now, to people in real, documented pain. Chronic pain patients already know this system: Stay quiet. Stay agreeable. Earn your relief. Or wait. Or suffer. Or leave. One day, every person watching this will need care. And when that day comes, the only question that will matter is this: Will you be treated like a human being… or like a problem to manage?
Jessica Rojas 🇺🇸💪@VoicesUnheard

Medical gaslighting, this is extremely hard to watch 💔 Using the word "hysterical" in 2026 to ignore a woman's pain is shameful. It's not a diagnosis; it’s a tool for gaslighting and withholding care. 😡

If you can watch someone suffer in intractable pain and justify it by calling them “drug seeking,” you’ve lost your humanity. Period.

You lost me the second you brought up the Sackler family. And I mean that honestly. If you haven’t actually lived this, if you’re not a chronic pain patient dealing with intractable pain every single day, then it’s really easy to default to that narrative. But that narrative mostly comes from things like Painkiller on Netflix or Dopesick on Hulu, which are one perspective, written, directed, and packaged to tell a very specific story. That’s not the full reality of what’s happening right now. What’s actually happening is people with legitimate, documented pain are being denied relief and treated like they have to prove they’re not “drug seekers” just to be taken seriously. So when I hear “Sackler family” used as the main argument, it doesn’t tell me you understand this system, it tells me you’re repeating a surface-level version of it. Because the people actually living in this don’t have the luxury of viewing it as a documentary, we’re stuck in it.
**@ridgedancing

@VinoNStrosGal The Sackler family gave out long pain level wall charts to every doctors office to get them to use oxycodone. After the epidemic of opioid use, the doctors did a 180 turnaround. Now we are expected to suffer. Everyone is seen as a “drug seeker” unless it’s proved otherwise.

Truckers, let's tell the truth. We don't just drive 70 hours a week. We drive 70 hours a week and work or are up for an additional 30-40 to unload and load. You're being ripped off. It's time to turn the tables. I for one am tired of everyone else enjoying the good life while we struggle.

After yesterday’s post I went down a rabbit hole. Here’s what I found: Private equity now owns 30%+ of vet clinics. Up from 8% a decade ago. 75% of emergency and specialty care is corporate owned. Vet bills are up 60% in 10 years. The model is pay or euthanize. And it doesn’t matter if your vet is independent. The predatory pricing spread industry wide. Over 2,000 stories in the comments from people. My heart is heavy. Before you need emergency care, Google your vet’s parent company. Know what you’re walking into. And also… take your dog on the vacation, the beach run, the inconvenient extra packing, planning, whatever. Take them and do all the things. I am full of grief wishing I would have done so many things way more often, despite being wrapped in a very busy season of motherhood and business.
Mindi@hey_mindi

There is something catastrophically wrong with Americas vet business. I sat for 3 hours yesterday with our 11 year old dog. Test after test. I kept signing financial agreement papers, desperate to find an answer to what’s wrong. Every step of the way, a thorough explanation of the need to do xyz. Always with the sentence at the end “that runs $____” Sign this. By the end of the 3 hours, my choices were pay $5000 to admit her for the rest of the afternoon or put her down. I couldn’t think straight. I walked in with her hours prior thinking she just had some little bug that would be simple to resolve. I can’t stop thinking about how many people would have to choose option 2, because $5000 out of left field isn’t possible to pay. I also can’t believe that I was forced to sit and watch a 14 min vaccine commercial reel on repeat for 3 hours while I contemplated our devastating circumstances. This can’t be the norm. If you have a prayer, I humbly ask if you’d lift our family up this Easter Sunday.

We need to ditch this cultural idea that it's okay to habitually drive 'a little bit' over the speed limit and start treating the speed limit as a maximum speed for driving.
Let’s be part of the solution@let_part

@Boenau People never say a drunk driver was creeping over the blood-alcohol limit. They do actually understand what a limit means - but when it comes to speeding, they just choose to break the law and disregard it

I get why people are starting to feel this way. There have already been federal investigations showing cases where the organ procurement process started while patients were still showing signs of life. That’s not “conspiracy,” that’s documented. Most people sign up to be donors because they want to help others, and that’s a beautiful thing. But trust matters. And when systems start showing cracks like that, people are going to start asking hard questions. As for me? I will be removing myself as an organ donor for the aforementioned reason.
