King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden began his visit to Ukraine by honoring our fallen warriors together with me. We are deeply grateful for this gesture of respect. The memory of each and every one of them is very important to us – the defenders of Ukraine who fought against Russian aggression. They fought not only for our country, but also for the protection of all of Europe, so that Russian madness and killing would not spread further. Eternal memory to our fallen heroes!

The EU’s loan package to Ukraine - the one meant to compensate for NOT handing over the frozen Russian assets - still isn’t fully transferred. The funds aren’t there yet. And it gets worse. After the loan was agreed on, several EU countries quietly cut their own bilateral support. Ukraine’s runway is shrinking by the week. The support was meaning to get Ukraine at least through 2026. It probably won’t. If it arrives at all. Defending yourself from a Russian invasion costs money. Loads of money. Now Orbán is gearing up to sabotage the package at next week’s EU meeting. Again. Because of course he is. This is a chicken race between Russia and Ukraine. A money chicken race. If Orbán succeeds and the EU doesn’t deliver - the outcome is already written. So while you’re doom-scrolling carrier strike group footage: the actual existential question for European security is being decided by bureaucrats in Brussels. Pay attention to the right screen.

So this matters. When Washington elevates Orbán and treats Robert Fico as a serious channel while he pushes narratives that blame Ukraine, the US strengthens the pro Kremlin bloc inside European Union. That is active support for the attacking side. No ally can ignore that. This is a historic failure of loyalty. Europe is watching the US help the actor that threatens to pull the continent into a wider war, the kind Europe has not faced since the Second World War.
