I'm on record as previously stating right here, that I did not want Geno Smith to be the bridge QB that Jets GM Darren Mougey brings onboard. I said that weeks before it actually happened. Today, I think Geno may play well enough this season to be the unquestioned starting QB going into 2027. How's that for an about-face. I have my reasons. Geno is a "young" 35 and isn't far removed from playoff calibre QB play in Seattle. Mougey has revamped the defense in free agency. There is offensive talent here. There is more defensive and offensive talent coming in the draft. I think the offensive line will protect Geno well enough to allow him to utilize his weapons and put points on the board. I think the defense will play well enough for the Jets to PLAY FROM A LEAD in 2026. Now, I'm not talking Lombardi Trophy here but I do think today, the official first day of Spring, that the Jets will be a middle-of-the-road NFL team in 2026 with the arrow pointing up. That promising scenario would mean the developmental QB the Jets draft this year will get at least an additional half season of grooming NEXT season. If the Jets draft a better QB prospect in 2027 they won't face the pressure of having to start him Week 1 (forget about Manning Jets fans that ain't happening). So while I was originally against acquiring Geno it may just turn out to be another of the many good moves that Dealing Darren Mougey has made since he's gotten here.

@SNY_Mets @misterobb Gotta give Soto credit here. With one statement he fired up 3/5ths of the Mets starting rotation. Senga is boosted while Peralta & Manea is like “Ace?!..we’ll see about that!” All while everyone knowing the real Ace is going to be McLean anyway.
